This is the Fakeout Tabletop Jam!
This is the place for tabletop game designers to create games that start as one thing and turn into another. Inspired by things like Doki Doki Literature Club, and haunted game cartridge creepypastas, we're looking for anything that starts out as one kind of experience but then becomes something else. This jam will go to August 12, 2024.
Games in this jam do NOT have to be horror! As long as the shift is unexpected, it fits. You might have games about:
- Comedy that becomes romance
- Unreliable memory
- Military that becomes sci-fi
- Solo game that suddenly requires other players
- Time jumps
Rules & Best Practices
- โ๏ธ Analog (tabletop/physical) games are the only type of submission permitted for this jam. If you would like to share digital games that match the theme, please do so using the community tab or Discord server rather than as a submission.
- ๐คInclude content warnings and safety tools as needed. While surprises can be fun, we want games that are safe for everyone. Be sure to give a heads up if your game presents uncomfortable themes or topics.
- ๐ค No AI-generated content is permitted for submissions to this jam, including art or writing.
- ๐ Credit inspirations and assets. All fonts and artwork must be used legally and attributed appropriately.
- ๐ซฅ Unfinished work and early drafts are totally welcome. Not everything needs to be polished before submitting!
- ๐ธ Set your own price, but we strongly encourage leaving some community copies so everyone participating in the jam can celebrate your work. Speaking of which:
- ๐ Hype other people's work! The best thing you can give someone is your time. Make space to celebrate the submissions to this jam in the same way you would want your own work to be celebrated.
- ๐คNo discriminatory stuff. Any submissions to this jam should take care to avoid content that is homophobic, xenophobic, racist, transphobic, or otherwise damaging to marginalized people and/or communities. Just be nice, yeah?
Bundle
Once this jam concludes, all entries that meet the guidelines will be invited to a bundle. (Totally elective; nobody is obligated to participate.) The bundle will run for a few months and be priced somewhere between 10 and 20 USD, depending on the quantity of submissions. Proceeds will be split among all participants.
