The FediJam is a month-long game jam for users of the Fediverse. Make a game (analog or digital, any tools, but no AI) in as little or as much time as you consider sensible, and post about it on your Fediverse presence(s) under the jam's hashtag #FediJam.
The theme will be voted on via a Mastodon poll, going live four days before the start of the jam.
Following the theme is optional! However, do note that adherence to the theme is a rating category! (see: "Ratings") You'll be given the chance to tell other participants why and how your game fits the theme when submitting it to the jam.
Entries that break any of those rules will be removed from the jam. If you want to continue working on your game in any way that would contradict one of those rules once the jam is over, please create a separate project for that.
Submitting your game to multiple jams will be tolerated, as long it complies with all the rules of both this and the other jam(s). We reserve the right to disqualify submissions that overdo it in this regard (e.g. submit to 5+ different jams).
When in doubt, please get in contact with us before submitting your game.
You can work alone or in teams (of any size). Being in multiple teams and/or submitting multiple games to the jam is allowed. If you want to find people to work with, use the community forum. There is no Discord (and never will be).
Only one person per team needs to join itch.io and submit the game. However, if other members on the team also join itch.io, they can be tagged as contributors. (On your game's page, click "Edit Game", "More", and "Admins", then follow the instructions).
Except for generative AI (see: "Rules", point 5), use whatever tool(s) you feel comfortable with.
That being said, we want to highly encourage everyone to give FOSS a try!
Also, consider open sourcing your project(s) as well, e.g. via:
And if you plan to integrate ActivityPub in your game, get in touch with Evan Prodromou!
During the jam's 7-day rating period, uploads will be locked. That is, you can no longer provide bug fixes or upload additional/altered versions. Editing the game's page itself (thumbnail, description, screenshots, etc.) will still be possible, though! Please refrain from putting links to newer builds of your game in your description or comments. This would see you disqualified from the jam!
The jam will be ranked in the following categories, each on a scale from 1 (worst) to 5 (best):
Only submitters (and people listed as contributors) will be able to vote.
⚠️ Your final rank in the jam will be only determined by the FUN category! ⚠️
However, you'll be able to compare the rankings for each of the categories afterwards.
If a category doesn't apply (e.g. AUDIO for analog games), please rate it with 1.
There are no prizes. Competition is just for fun!
Anything you make during the FediJam is your property. We claim no rights or ownership of your game.
Ask them in the community forum, mention @fedi_jam@mastodon.gamedev.place or post under the hashtag #FediJam.
While unrelated to this particular jam, it was brought to our attention that there have been previous installments of game jams specifically for users of the Fediverse. So here's a quick shoutout to the incredible people that came before us: Fediverse-Jam, FediJam 2, FediJam 3, FediJam 4, FediJam 5, FediJam 6, FediJam 7, Summer Fediverse Jam
