thanks for sharing this, it unearthed a lot of old memories i had around games and escapism too. i had a copy of one of the gba pokemon games (don't remember which one) that i played so much, i fried the circuitboards in the cart. it's a different feeling from the one you described, suddenly being locked out of that world id come to love, but i imagine it runs parallel in a lot of ways.
