Welcome to Game-ify The Planet!
So far in my life, I've game-ified listening to music (my Spotify Wrapped is a year-long game I play against myself and I almost always lose, but it's SO much fun to play literally all year long, game link to come), watching TV (First Impressions, which I absolutely need to overhaul, give a new layout and rerelease, bleh), watching movies (B-Movie Bingo, as played on To B-Movie or Not To B-Movie), designing games (10 Minute TTRPGs the podcast, and the guide doc you can grab free here!), cuddling (Snugglebug) and Being Trans (EUPHORIA).
But I'm not satisfied.
I want to game-ify more of life, because why not? And I think you should, too. Life can always be more fun and seeing other people create has always been a great joy and source of motivation and inspiration to me as well. (And sure, I know technically you can say 'gamify' instead of 'game-ify', but gamify looks so wrong to me I'm sorry I am ignoring it)
For this jam, as a birthday present to myself (I turn 30 June 27th!), I am challenging whoever wants to to try their hand at gamifying a part of everyday life and creating a small game to do so!
Like I mentioned above, that can include things like watching TV or listening to music, or even game-ifying your commute, brushing your teeth, doing the dishes, going to bed, grocery shopping- I don't know your life! But you do, so pick something to game-ify and let's go!!
Rules:
- Absolutely no GenAI for anything at all. I will disqualify you, block you and remove your submission. No GenAI pics or assets, no ChatGPT or its horrible cousins. Nada.
- Keep your games focused on the mundane aspects of life. And remember, just because I or someone else have game-ified something doesn't mean you can't tackle the same topic- if you'd game-ify watching TV or cuddling or whatever differently than I have, have at it!
- Submit only works created for this jam during its run. It's all month long, so that should be plenty of time to noodle something and it's part of the challenge of it all!
- Feel free to submit ashcans or just plain text documents it's not all about polish, though feel free to polish as much as you'd like to!
- For every beautifully designed game book you upload, please include a plain text document for those with vision impairments who need to use screenreaders, it doesn't cost any of us extra to be a little more inclusive
- Keep your game small, ideally under 10 pages of TNR 12, double spaced (that's not a formatting requirement at all, it's just to measure your doc if you're unsure).
- It doesn't have to be a TTRPG, as you can see some of mine are bingo games, some are just... honestly, I have no idea what kind of game First Impressions is. It's fun, and you can just play it with a scrap of paper or your notes app, and you can win or lose, so that's good enough for me.
- No video games
- This is a bigotry free zone. No hate speech, no racists, no transphobes, no TERFs, no SWERFs, no homophobes, no Zionists. Be kind, I'll be moderating to quietly remove anything hateful, I don't argue or engage so it's really not worth it.
- There's no rule against charging for your game! You totally deserve to be paid for your work if you want to! I usually try to include free community copies to my paid games but that's up to you!
- You can submit as many games as you want, there's no limit to the inspiration!
- No NSFW games
That's it! I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! There's no physical prizes, but I'll pick a top 3 of my personal faves to highlight!
