In 2091, the World Wide Web will be 100 year old.
This is kind of scary when you think about it. The Internet as it is today is only 30 year old, it already evolved so much it is virtually unrecognizable from its early years. We can only imagine what almost 70 years of technological progress and cultural shift would do.
And this applies to games too. Whatever the form the Internet will take, people will make games out of it. Since 2019 I run the Museum of Screens, a project dedicated to research, feature and archive free web games. I tend to focus on old games, at least ten year old since they are the one most at risk to disappear. But today, I want to focus on the future. I want to imagine what would game looks like in 69 years. The theme of this jam is:
That’s it that's the theme. Make what you think a game would look like 69 years in the future. There are no other constraint.
A few advices to help you:
Also, if the goal of this jam is to project ourselves into the future, so will your games! If you submit an entry with source code to the jam, it will be included in an archive that will be uploaded to the Internet Archive. The goal will be for your game to be still available by 2091 in a digital time capsule. There is no way to predict whether the Internet Archive will still be around in 69 years, but if enough people download and reupload it, we can make sure the archive will.
Follow the Museum of Screens on Twitter for more informations about the project. During the month of december I will choose games from the jam and feature them on the account.
