Thank you for a great year! This year, we hosted several events, and our community grew steadily throughout the year. We're super happy and excited about going into 2023 with this awesome community
Let's end this year properly, by throwing a fun, collaborative & fully virtual game jam! The game jam last year was a huge success, so we are keeping things simple and basically copy/pasting the event format from 2021!
ABOUT THE JAM
The game jam will start at 9:00 on Friday, December 2nd and end at 22:00 on Saturday, December 17th.
These dates were decided with both full time employees and students in mind - 9-5ers, we recommend you use the first weekend to work and submit in the first week as we know your work ramps up in mid December. Students - we will be looking forward to your submissions in the second week, after your exams are over. This year, we pushed the submission deadline to Saturday evening because we are aware that Reykjavík University Game Design students have Demo Day on Dec 12th.
The theme is: Lights!
Starting right after the jam ends on Saturday evening, December 17th, we will open a vote for the best jam submissions. The winner will be announced at 17:00 on Sunday, December 18th. There will be a prize in the form of Steam gift codes for a few games created by Icelandic gamedevs and studios!
Everything is totally digital / virtual! There is no physical meet-up involved, so this means that EVERYONE can participate, yes also those of you who currently live somewhere else!
We will be using the #gamejam channel on our Slack to communicate all information relating to the jam, and we recommend you use that to share your progress and ask questions during the jam. We encourage you to team up! A game jam is much easier in a group! If you're on the Slack, you can use the #lookingforgroup channel to find team mates.
All engines, third-party assets, and your own old assets are permissible!
You will have to submit to this page before the end of the jam for your game to be a valid submission.
TIPS&TRICKS
We highly recommend joining the Game Makers Iceland Slack and communicating with others who are participating on there. It makes the jam a lot more fun and engaging.
CUT SCOPE as much as possible. The most successful game jam games deliver on a simple, clever idea, mechanic, or aesthetic. Don't overload or overwork yourself. The jam is running for 2 weeks not so you will work for the entire two weeks, rather so we can allow for flexibility in participation Finalize your idea and submit, even (or especially) if it's well before the deadline.
HOW TO SUBMIT A GAME
You have to create an itch.io account and you must submit your game to the this jam page before the deadline for it to count as a valid submission.
