In today's digital age, disinformation poses a serious threat to democracy, eroding trust and undermining the very foundations of democracy. We are challenging game development communities in Africa to fight back.

The GameUp Africa Jam for Democracy is a unique opportunity for storytellers, game developers, artists, sound designers, and civic activists to unite and create games that combat disinformation and promote democratic values.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

  • Workshops and Training: From 9th - 13th Dec, we’ll have conversations on Games, Activism, Citizenship and Culture which will be facilitated by  professionals from gaming, technology, politics, and communication. Learn about democratic decision-making, disinformation, deep fakes, the societal impact of new technologies, and the power of games to drive social change.
  • Get your Game On: From 16th - 20th Dec you will collaborate online and in-person to develop innovative games that expose the dangers of disinformation and illustrate how to combat it.

JUDJING CRITERIA

Our panel of judges will select the top three teams under the following guide marks:

  • Innovation and Creativity: Originality of concept and execution.
  • Gameplay: Fun factor, mechanics, and overall experience.
  • Presentation: Clarity of the pitch and overall polish.
  • Viability: Potential for further development and impact.

By considering these aspects, we aim to recognize projects that not only entertain but also inspire positive change.
