To commemorate and/or reclaim the December 9, 2005 theatrical premiere of the film Brokeback Mountain (adapted from a short story by Annie Proulx) we invite all gay cowboys and/or queer cowfolks to craft a small creative work (game, visual novel, short story, illustration, poem, etc.) that has:

• LGBTQIA+ themes
• "Western" type of setting / energy / mood
  • we interpret the Western genre inclusively
  • you don't have to literally set it in the American midwest during the late 1800s... you can make a modern day Western, or a feminist sci-fi Western, etc. anything that evokes your queer reading of the Western genre

Possible inspirations for gay and queer westerns:

• the films El Topo (1970), Thelma and Louise (1991), My Own Private Idaho (1995), God's Own Country (2017)
• "Dead of Night" by Orville Peck, "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X, "Jolene" by Dolly Parton
• the novel Nevada, the interactive fiction Gun Mute, Parvati's side quest in The Outer Worlds, the party game Jolene, one page TTRPG Ride 'Til I Can't No More

JAM BEGINS: ~ December 2. 
You can start earlier, if you like. You can also finish an already in-progress thing for the jam, if you like. The one (1) week jam time is a suggestion to help you scope a small project.
