Overview

This is a collaborative game jam where we all create microgames for a single WarioWare-style Gameboy game. What's a microgame? Dude, go play WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! for the GBA. What are you even doing with your life?

Since we'll be combining all of the microgames into a single .gb rom file, submissions will have to be built off of a standardized codebase. Luckily, we happen to have one such codebase right here. That means, however, that everyone will have to develop their microgames using GBDK.

Want to participate?

Of course you do! Here's the link again to the repo. Go there, read the readme, and start making microgames!

If you're only used to using stuff like GB Studio or even ZGB, don't fret! There are plenty of resources available to help you get started (see the readme in the repo). Microgames inherently have a small scope, so they're perfect for an entry level project. And hey, you'll have a whole month to figure it out!

But if you really don't want to figure it out, that's cool too. Head over to the community tab of this jam and find someone to partner with. I'm sure you can find someone willing to trade code for art or music or whatever you can contribute. Actually, everyone should go head to the community tab anyway. Go contribute to the assets sharing thread or something.

Timeline

The jam will run for the entire month of November, and will close on December 1st, 2022. After the jam concludes, I'll start merging everyone's code and work on finishing the rest of the actual game itself. December is obviously a busy time of year, but I'm hoping to be able to have the completed rom ready before year's end.

Combining all of these microgames into a single game has the potential to be a headache and a half for me, so please read the readme and follow the instructions. And reach out if you have any questions that aren't addressed in the readme. As far as I know, this is a first of its kind game jam, so I'm kinda flying by the seat of my pants when it comes to organizing everything.
