🎮 Game Development Challenge 2025 – Mechanics Edition! 🕹️
Welcome to this year’s Game Development Challenge 2025, where the spotlight is on game mechanics! Forget restrictive themes—this challenge gives you the creative freedom to craft unique gameplay experiences while challenging yourself with mechanics of your choice!
Whether you're a seasoned developer or a newcomer, there's something for everyone! We’ve curated a selection of mechanics across different difficulty levels to ensure everyone can join the fun.
How It Works
Pick a Challenge: Choose a game mechanic from the provided list based on your skill level—Easy, Intermediate, or Advanced. Feel free to innovate and expand beyond the mechanic you choose!
Form a Team or Go Solo: Collaborate with artists, programmers, and designers using our Discord server, or take on the challenge solo!
Build Your Game: You’ll have until 29th of January to create a game that highlights your chosen mechanic and present it to us at the branch!
Submit on Itch.io: Upload your game here on this jam page before the deadline.
Rules:
Participation can be individual or in groups.
Max team members per team are 5 members
Each team can submit only one game featuring one specified mechanic.
All work on the game must be completed within the designated time frame of the challenge.
Participants are free to work at the branch or any other location of their choice.
Any development tools or game engines may be used.
Free assets with proper licenses are allowed, with links to external assets provided on the project page.
Generative AI may be used only for text-based content such as code, ideas, or dialogue; it cannot be used for audio, music, textures, or visuals.
Any theme, art style, or narrative can be used, as long as the game incorporates the specified mechanics.
Games must be fully playable using a keyboard and mouse.
Games should preferably be uploaded in WebGL or HTML5 format to be playable in-browser.
Games must be suitable for a general audience. Mild blood and gore are acceptable, but nudity and triggering topics are prohibited.
