Short description of the game
We were inspired by the idea of being a viewer. Sometimes, you witness an incredible show without ever knowing what happens behind the scenes. With this game, we wanted players to experience the hidden chaos that unfolds backstage. A theater play felt like the perfect setting to bring this concept to life. As the director, players must ensure everything runs flawlessly, from lighting and props to costumes and even the actors' quirky demands… managing the madness behind the curtain to deliver a perfect performance on stage
Development Process
Our game development process evolved quite a bit from the original idea. Initially, we planned to set the game in a television show, where the gameplay would revolve around monitoring what the audience sees through different cameras. However, we found the concept of a chaotic theater production even funnier, so we shifted the setting to a stage play.
Originally, the actors were meant to be completely random, featuring characters like a diva, a cowboy, a pirate, and an astronaut. In the end, we decided to streamline the theme and focus on a medieval setting instead.
We also had ambitious plans to include many more sub-tasks and minigames, inspired by games like Overcooked and Among Us, but due to time constraints, we refined the gameplay to focus primarily on management mechanics. Despite these changes, the core idea of handling the unpredictable backstage madness remained, making for an engaging and chaotic experience.
Did you work in a multicultural/multilingual team over different time-zones?
Yes! We worked in USA/East, USA/Central, Peru, and Ireland. Timezones were UTC and EST.
For this, we decided to do daily meetings at 10 AM (EST) to check progress, and our official language was English (even though 2 of our team members spoke other languages, we came up with really good communication). We used Google Docs, Milanote, and Google Sheets to keep track of our progress.
