End: Friday, September 23rd @ 10pm CDT

Theme: Transition

It's been an intense summer, so let's cool off with the Goodbye Summer Jam! Spend a week, or just 48 hours if you prefer, with a small team making a new game concept! The theme and its optional modifiers will be revealed at the designated start time. This event is primarily meant for local creators in St. Louis, Missouri, but folks worldwide are welcome to participate! Scroll to the bottom of this section for Diversifier challenges!

To find teammates, this link will bring you to the Discord server for the STL GameDev Co-op community and its team-forming channel.

On Saturday, September 24th, we will do a livestream showcasing all submissions. Shortly after that, we will have a showcase video on the STL GameDev Co-op Youtube channel.

FAQ:

  • Is this jam ranked? No, it is a casual event.
  • Work in teams or solo? Both are okay.
  • What engines may we build on? Any.
  • Platforms the build must work on? We recommend browser-compatible uploads, or a Windows build otherwise.
  • Is it okay to build a game that is played with a gamepad/controller? Yes, but keyboard controls should be a priority before that.
  • May we use public domain or third-party assets? Yes, as long as you have legal permission to use them.
  • May we use pre-existing code? Yes, as long as it's just small scripts for things like movement. Keep pre-existing code minimal.
  • Any content restrictions? The game must exclude mature content and extreme gore. Generally think T for Teen, or E for Everyone if possible. You can always expand those scopes of the game after the jam. Also note that: misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and other hate speech will not be tolerated.

Diversifiers:

1. Got The Moves - only directional movement input is allowed for the player.

2. Party Time - create a party game where all players share a single screen.

3. Too Hot! - add an element where temperature drops impact gameplay.

4. Just A "Bit" Of Color - no more than 4 colors can be used.

5. Small Sample Size - All audio in the game must be a variation of one single sound.

6. What’s on the Menu? - includes a menu to start the game, view credits, etc.
