A ten-day challenge to create a game using a grid!
All skill levels are welcome from beginner to professional. New to this whole thing? Never made a game before? Play some jam-winning games to see where you can be after several jams of practice.
Retro Indie Josh will stream games submitted to a midpoint check-in stream halfway through the jam to provide feedback.

Create a game using a grid!
This can be squares, rectangles, hexagons, octagons - whatever you can imagine. Make a puzzle game, strategy game, action game - no limits.
If your game is 3D, you can use a 2D grid with 3D graphics, or go all-out with a 3D grid.
Questions about the format? Talk about it on Discord or in the jam community.
Hercules, Icarus, King Arthur, Amaterasu, Thunderbird, Phoenix, Dragon, Kratos - there's a rich history of characters, monsters, and stories from myths, legends, and folklore in video games. Find inspiration in these foundational tales that built culture from gods, heroes, and monsters.
You might adapt directly from the mythology, as God of War utilizes various Greek deities. Or use general concepts like elves, fairies, magic, and castles as in the Legend of Zelda series. Maybe even research an obscure or less familiar story to bring a unique flavor to your game.
The theme is optional, but remember Theme/Limitation counts for 1/6th of your Community Choice score. Also, the theme can be a great way to come up with ideas if you're stuck!
More creative interpretations of the theme will generally score higher, but don't go so far that the theme is unrecognizable.
These diversifiers are optional, but are a great way to help your game stand out and get included in the highlights video. Plus, it's more fun (and more educational) to work with extra limitations.
If you do go for diversifiers, you can use one, two, or even all three of them.
Winning Music: Use Cubic Storm by Delfino and/or Acid Flux by thememedaddy (winners of the Music Challenge) somewhere in your game. These talented artists have been kind enough to give permission to use the tracks, so take advantage of the opportunity!
Bichromatic: Use a maximum of two colors throughout the game.
Theme Party: Use a theme from a past 8 Bits to Infinity jam in addition to this jam's theme. See the 8 Bits to Infinity website for links to all past jams.
You (contributors to any game entered into this jam) determine the Community Choice by voting on games after the jam concludes. Check out the Ratings Guide for how to interpret categories and tips on good star ratings.
RetroIndieJosh will create a highlights video including the winners, high-ranking games, and the best diversifier users posted on his YouTube channel.
The highest overall rated game will be the winner and placed in the list of 8 Bits to Infinity jam winners.
Failure to abide by these rules will result in your submission being disqualified and ineligible for rating, or removed from the jam, at the organizer's discretion.
