Welcome to Grow-ON Jam, a celebration of the work of indie veteran developer On Nakayama (ON/EYEZMAZE), notable creator of the GROW series of Flash and mobile titles. Over twenty years ON has published dozens of freely available titles to a wide audience, and founded a unique genre of gentle games with layered progression systems.

Supporting ON

All of ON's games have been freely available across two decades supported by donations. You can support him financially through his website, and find him on social media platforms. In 2019 ON had a heart surgery which he is still recovering from. With your support, he'll be able to outsource miscellaneous tasks so that he can concentrate on being creative.

Jam Theme

This jam is to make a game in the spirit of ON's work: to examine his creations and see what inspires you to create something in its spirit. This includes, but is not restricted to, the GROW series in which the player is presented a number of buttons and the order they are pressed creates different outcomes.

Guidelines

  • Create a game inspired by ON
  • Work alone or in teams of any size
  • Use any engine, toolset, publish to any platform you want
  • This is a non-competitive jam to appreciate a creator. Post-jam bugfixes and updates will be unquestionably accepted; make the best thing you can!

Is ON involved in the jam? Can we use assets from his games?

The jam isn't hosted or endorsed by ON; we're fans of his work and want to see things that follow in his footsteps :) We used his art for this page to showcase his work and to inspire you. That said, please don’t use it in your game. All of his work, the games and the assets, are his own. You should only publish a game with assets you have the remit to use, either making your own or using licensed asset packs. If you're making a GROW-like game please don't put "GROW" in the title, to avoid confusion with official games in the series.

Thank you!
