... Is this thing on? Hi! We are Halcyon Frequency, a team of streamers over on Twitch. We've been hard at work over the past few years, building a community with a common interest in gaming from indie to AAA games!
Over the years, we've noticed there are a number of extremely creative members of our community. From artists to programmers, we've put in a lot of thought into how we can showcase your talents, leading us to decide to host a community game jam with a focus on accessibility and creativity for all skill levels. This brings us to itch - we are huge fans of this site and love using it as a platform to find interesting upcoming projects and to follow developers.
So what are we hoping for? A fun weekend jam happening July 29th - August 1st!
As mentioned above, our community aims to raise awareness for all types of accessibility. Therefore, we have some guidelines for the types of games we'd love to see from this jam.
A few of us on the team suffer from simulation sickness, which is a form of motion sickness experienced while playing video games. People suffering from simulation sickness may feel discomfort, dizziness, headaches, increased heart rate, fatigue, sweating, or nausea while playing games that include possible triggers. Those triggers include, but are not limited to, motion blur, screen shake, moving backgrounds, weather effects like snow or rain, smooth camera movement, and a first-person perspective. Basically, any kind of movement that the player has no control over or which is be too fast and jolting might cause an issue. If you have questions about this or want to confirm if your game is simulation-sickness friendly, feel free to reach out to 2DKiri or FGsquared.
The theme is "Good Morning"
We would also like to draw your attention to other accessibility features, such as color-blind options, subtitles/closed captioning, on-screen visualizers, and controls remapping. While inclusion of these features may not necessarily be within the scope of a weekend game jam, we would like to encourage would-be developers to be cognizant of these features even beyond the jam setting.
For teams, we think it's best if you keep it simple. Either solo or duo development groups are ideal. However, if you like to work with a bigger team, feel free to reach out to a member of Halcyon.
As for assets and engine, that is up to you! Feel free to use tools and packs, but we ask that all of the game development is completed during the jam period.
As for judging, anyone can leave a rating. We'll encourage our audiences to play the games and leave constructive feedback. We will also be watching as the games develop.
After the jam, we'll be playing the most popular and complete projects on our streams and providing live feedback. If you prefer us not to play your game publicly, please specify so in your submission.
Thank you for participating! We look forward to seeing what you create.
