Welcome all, to the HALLOCTOBER GAME JAM OF DOOM!

OVERVIEW

You'll have three days to create a game and submit it, to have fun and earn points for your team!
You can team up with whoever your want, from whichever team, and as many people as you'd like! All participants will earn 7 points for their team.  Don't feel discouraged from working with other teams - think about it, if you go out on your own and don't end up submitting, that's free points for the other teams! But that's not the point anyway - focus on having fun and making some cool stuff, the points are just a bonus ;)

THEME

The theme for the HALLOCTOBER GAME JAM OF DOOM is:

No touching

The additional, optional theme is:

A Favourite Song

Your game does not have to be spooky or related to Halloween/Halloctober! But if you're feeling festive, go for it!

RULES

  1. The game must be completed and submitted by the end date/time provided.
  2. You need to submit your game to earn points! It doesn't matter if you finish. You can unlist it from your public itch.io page if you want.
  3. The game must be created during the jam, but feel free to reuse assets and code you have already made, as well as any royalty free assets you can find online (places to find free resources will be provided in the community tab!)
  4. The game must adhere to the mandatory theme. How exactly it does that is entirely up to you, though!
  5. Be proud of what you've done! No matter how finished, no matter how broken, you've done something awesome and learned along the way. The biggest skill you can learn from game jams is how to scope a project with the time and talents you have. It only gets easier over time

FAQ

Feel free to ask questions (message Billy on Discord or post in the jam forums) and I'll try to answer them here!

WHAT THE HELL IS A GAME JAM???

At it's simplest, a game jam is an event where you're given a short amount of time, usually 2 or 3 days, to create a game from scratch!

Ok, but what is it really? And why would I do it?

Usually, you're given a theme or a restriction to get the creative juices flowing or encourage you to think outside the box, and it's usually (but not always) mandatory. Sometimes it's a competition, sometimes it's not (this one isn't, for example).  Game jams have all sort of benefits - you can practice your skills, try collaborating with someone new, have fun and learn about how you work. You should always feel proud of what you accomplish in a game jam, even if it's not what you envisioned (even if it's not finished at all!)

What if I can't or don't want to make the art/music/sounds for my game?

There are a load of places you can find great, royalty free assets. I'll be compiling a list of them in a post in the community tab of the jam (you can see it just under the main heading of the jam page). I'll also provide a few super simple tools you can use to create your own sounds and music in the same post.

Does my game need to be halloween themed or related to Halloctober?

Not at all! You can interpret the jam's theme however you like, and there is no expectation that you relate it to Halloctober. Of course, if you feel like being spooky, go ahead!
