  • I’m always on the lookout for quests that introduce a time-based element purely utilizing in-game mechanics, and you’ve excelled at not just one, but two great executions of that in this quest! I appreciate the heroes being urged by the big bad to “watch the clock” so to speak. The polarized enemies are very clever too. You have certainly pulled out all the stops for this quest, and do advise it to be embarked upon only by veteran heroes, but the curses, exploding polarized enemies, and more than a few high level monsters, plus Kessandria herself, all exact a heavy toll over the course of this epic adventure. While there are means to hamper her strength, there are no direct aids to be discovered by the heroes such as restorative potions, spell scrolls or the like to rally their efforts. I do love how you used the crystal ball cardboard piece as a map tile element, and big points for shining the limelight on Kessandria, and letting her show off her witchy personality!
  • A hugely ambitious rule set creates a new concept for a quest that will certainly be a challenge for more seasoned players. I like the explosion concept... it will be interesting how quickly this happens within the play time as well! Great work and best of luck :)

Hello !

Sorry for my bad english if i made mistakes . ^^

We played your quest at home last week and it was really fun ! : )

For some reasons, my daughter is a fan of Kessandria so fighting this iconic enemy is always fun for us.

The setup for the quest is great and i think that your idea of polarized monsters is one the best of this Jam ! It's super interesting gameplay-wise !  The board's organization is beautifull and looks unic.

The fight against Kessandria is very very difficult. Our heroes were destroyed but it was a fun adventure nonetheless.

Big thanks for sharing your quest !

thanks a lot. Didn't imagine anyone playing it. I hope you did reduce her stats by closing off the tombs and killing the patrol 😉

I was the Zargon in this and i tried to  warn the heroes but they have been foolish. ^^ We debrief after the ending and we think that the fight, althought difficult, is feasible. The mechanics in this quest are really cool ! :)

i had two main goals with this one. I also think that Kessandria is an underused niche character that diserves her spotlight. She should get some chatacter and feel very powerful and frightening.

I also wanted to put stuff to use that is available like find a meaning for the translucent monsters or for the fact that you could  remove the covers of the tomb.

Kassandria had a few more tricks up her sleave in the original longer Version of the quest. The 2 doors that lead to the corridor 1 were magic doors. It was actually just one door ahe could switch places on zargons door. So if the heroes tried to rush to the first door it would disappear and be placed in the other room. Then there would have been wild discussion what to do under the time pressure. Split up the party or send someone through the wall to stop the monsters 😀

I agree that Kessandriah is an underused character. I'm wondering if she and Skullmar might make a comeback in future Heroquest expansions. In our heroquest homebrew meta, she takes also a far greater place.

It's true that the "one page rule" (even if i understand it), requires limiting our number of ideas to put in the quest, wich can be frustrating ! : )

But I particularly like the idea that you present here, which puts even more pressure on the adventurers. The design of the quest then corresponds to a real, big boss fight which may require reworking the entire expansion of the return of Witch Lord so as not to have this quest overshadow it. However, if this is done, the result could be very, very badass.
