In this jam, you goal is to make a game in the incremental(also known as idle-incremental) genre, in a week.
To put it simply - You do simple actions (most of the times it's clicking or just waiting), and numbers rise. Incremental games also often include idle elements and upgrades. If you want some great examples of incremental games, check out Cookie Clicker, Candy Box 2, Antimatter Dimensions, games on galaxy or maybe even the previous jam.
The purpose of this jam is to create new and innovative incremental games. It's a place of experimentation, where everything (apart from point and click games) is accepted.
This jam's challenge is - Make a game with layered elements.
Examples:
Feel free to interpret this challenge as you wish, or maybe even ignore it entirely.
Everything is allowed, but keep in mind the itch.io Terms of Service.
You will be ranking each other's games based on following criterias:
Overall - How the game is overall. This criteria is what decides the main winner, and is what most attention should be put in.
Innovation - Is there some cool new mechanic this game introduced? Maybe it's a twist on the formula? After all, we are here to make new and unique games.
Music & Sounds - Does this game sound good? Or... maybe it has cool sound effects? This ranks those.
Art & Effects - Did the game stun you with it's beautiful artstyle or mind-boggling visual effects? You can give it a good rating here then!
Fun & Balance - Is the game even fun? Is it balanced? Would you like to play this game outside of the jam? You can judge it here.
The ranking period will last 7 days from the end of submission period and by the end of ranking the winner will be decided.
Q: Can I use free assets?
A: Yes you can! Just make sure you have the rights to use them. Most free assets can require you crediting you, which you should do.
Q: Is there a theme?/Is it mandatory?
A: There will be a challenge instead of a theme, but it's in no way mandatory. It's there to make people think outside of the box, and give them ideas, rather than try to make them think that they are limited to an interpretation of a theme.
Q: Can I start early?
A: Yep! But, it's recommended you don't, for a better experience.
