Tools
These are some tools I would recommend to make your games. You are not limited to use these!
GB Studio:
A drag-and-drop game builder for making Game Boy games!
GBDK:
A toolkit made by Chris Maltby that let's you make Game Boy games.
NESMaker:
A game engine that allows you to make NES games!
Retro Puzzle Maker:
This web based game engine let's you make your very own top down NES games, right in your browser! There is also a desktop version.
DS Game Maker (DSGM):
A game builder that allows users to make games for the Nintendo DS!
Unity (Wii U, 3DS, PS3 and PS Vita SDK):
a simple and easy to use game engine that works for these consoles, maybe there is a very old version of Unity that works for creating games for Windows XP, but I'm not sure about that.
NOT ALLOWED
Any participating game that is made for modern platforms will be immediately disqualified, example any relatively modern video game console (ps4, ps5 and nswitch), Windows 10/11 (32/64bit), Commander X16, Pico8.
