What is this game jam?
Game jams are short events where people (solo or in teams) are creating games under a tight deadline. The goal is to come up with ideas, gain some experience making games, and meet other creative people. And we want to focus on fun and creativity over competition, so submissions are not going to be rated.
This game jam is hosted by the unofficial gamedev community of The Worst Garbage Online podcast network's Discord server! (Links for server channels below)
Who can participate?
Everyone is welcome, individually or in teams, and with any amount of game-making background (including none!) The jam is also not limited to programming and video games, so artists, musicians, writers, and everyone else are also welcome to make board games, playable experiences of any other kind, or contribute to video games in teams.
Theme
The Alchemy of a Coin
Season 6, episode 30 of Into the Aether
from February 28, 2024
Constraints help creativity, so all submitted games should follow or interpret a central theme. The theme is the title of the Into the Aether podcast episode, and you can interpret it in any way you want, no hard rules here!
How to participate?
- Click "Join jam" at the top of the page (you can do that before the jam begins)
- To talk about the jam, find teammates, ask any questions, or make any suggestions join the ITGJ forum thread (join TWG Discord server, in the "Games Forums" section pick the "games-events" forum, and look for Into The Game Jam forum thread)
- Submit all files for your game before the jam ends (no late submissions!)
Rules and conditions
- The jam is going to be held from UTC 21:00 June 21st to UTC 03:00 July 1st
- Submissions are not going to be rated
- Teams and collaborations are allowed
- You are allowed to use any assets and tools you either created yourself or have permission/commercial license for, but please list what you used in the submission description
- Develop for any platform you want people to play your game on
- Don't break Itch.io TOS
- Be cool, respectful to each other, and overall low-key :)
Other useful things:
- Focus on your game being playable and working above all else
- Don't make last minute changes, those often lead to unintended consequences
- A discussion about useful tools for making a game at the game jam thread if you are not sure what to use
- If everything goes well this jam can become a recurring thing, so if you can't make it this time there's probably going to be another chance later!
