Welcome one, welcome all, to the first JADS Game Jam!

A game jam for the Joseph Anderson Discord Server (JADS) community :)

This 7-day game jam is primarily hosted in JADS, the Joseph Anderson Discord Server. The main hub for discussion during the jam and voting period is the #game-jam-dvd thread in JADS! If you have any specific questions not answered on this page, feel free to DM me (@zerstorenhv) on Discord or ping me in the thread!

The theme is:

"stirring the pot"

Voters

Voting has closed! Thanks to all the people who voted, and, if you didn't have the chance to vote, feel free to play some of the games anyway :)

You will need to make an itch account in order to vote. Return to this page once you have done so.

You will be shown the ranked voting queue, which will show you (5) random games from the jam. You cannot vote on any other games than those. After you vote on those games, you will unlock the ability to vote on any game you would like to vote for. (This prevents people from making bots to vote for a specific game while also making sure the games get a good spread of votes.)

Please contact me (@zerstorenhv) if you spot anything in a game that breaks the JADS server rules, or if you notice a significant use of copyrighted assets for any entry that has stated that they are eligible for that category. (Visual and Audio are different categories with different eligibility!)

Rules

General

  • This is a jam for members of the JADS community. Submissions from people who are not users there will be removed.
  • Accordingly, all submissions for the jam should adhere to the JADS rules. (This is your usual set of no hate speech, no NSFW, etc. rules. Check #rules-and-info in JADS to see the whole list.)
  • There will be a theme. Your submission, however, does not need to adhere to the theme to participate or win awards (except for the Best Use of Theme award).
  • The hosts of the jam reserve discretion in handling any issues with submissions that may arise.
  • Have fun :)

Categories & Awards

  • Although this is a generally casual jam, there will be awards for (5) categories. These categories are:
    • Best Visuals
    • Best Audios
    • Best Use of Theme
    • Community Favorite
    • Best Overall (The Big Cheese)
  • Each category winning team will receive (1) official Joseph Anderson Anime Race Marble™. Your team will need to come to an agreement on which anime you would like to assign the marble to if you win one. (The same anime marble rules as usual apply.)
  • The winners for all categories except for Community Favorite will be decided by an anonymous panel of judges from the JADS community. And before you badger him about it: no, Joe is not one of the judges.
  • The winner of the Community Favorite award will be determined by the JADS community at large! There will be a public voting period after submissions close through the itch.io game jam page.  Voters will need an itch.io account to vote, and we will be using the Rating Queue functionality to ensure that people try a good spread of games as they vote.

Assets

  • If you want to be eligible for the Best Visuals or Best Audios award categories, the vast majority of the work for that category should be made by a member of your team during the 7-day period. There will be a place to indicate your eligibility when you submit your game.
  • You are allowed to use public domain or royalty-free assets. Just mind how much you use if you want to be eligible for awards in that category.
  • You are not allowed to generate entire assets via the use of "AI" tools. If AI tools are a part of your workflow or if you significantly transform AI-generated components, then that is acceptable.
  • Another reminder that assets should adhere to the JADS overall rules. If it couldn't go in the stream art museum, then don't put it in your game.

Times

  • There are three sets of start dates and deadlines to accommodate the global userbase of JADS. The most important ones to keep in mind are: the jam will officially open for the UTC+8 group at 12 noon on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 (UTC+8), and then it will close for UTC-8 at 12 noon on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 (UTC-8). There is a 1-hour grace period after this deadline in the case of technical issues or any other issues which may arise, but no submissions will be allowed after the grace period. (A full rundown of the timelines is pinned in #game-jam-dvd, where there are timestamps that should conform to your local timezone)
  • Although we heavily encourage teams to participate in the timezones that they signed up for, there will be no disqualification for failing to adhere to them. The different groups will help the small management team manage the flow of submissions as the deadlines draw close, and we obviously would like to avoid having deadlines at prohibitive times for any of the teams.
  • As soon as submissions close, the voting period will commence! The public voting for the Community Favorite award will close at 13:00 / 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2023 (UTC-8). During this period, all uploads for submissions will be locked!

I know, I know - that's a lot of rules for a "casual" event. But in the case that you are confused by any of these rules or if you have any questions at all, really, please message me (@zerstorenhv) on Discord! I will be active in the #game-jam-dvd thread throughout the event! Don't be shy :)
