Hello, I have played the game. The file size of the NES file is only 41KB. Wow! Wonderful!  The gameplay is quite interesting. I am curious. May I ask a question? No sound was heard in the game. Can Family BASIC produce sounds?

The design of the first level is nice. After I finished the first level, I prepared for the second level. Then I discovered that there was no second level. I was quite surprised.  By the way, I encountered an issue. Sometimes I pressed arrow keys but there is no response.

In conclusion, this entry is a nice attempt!

Thank you for the review!

Family BASIC can produce sound. I just used beeps because it cannot play music and run the gameplay at the same time. Or it may be possible but I am not advanced enough. I did use a tune at the title screen. Did you have your sound turned on?

Regarding the buttons, if you press more buttons than one, it may not work.

Family BASIC is for simple games. I wish I could've made more levels, but I hit the memory limit.

GAMEPLAY: 4/5

Pretty intuitive. This was the first of two games in the Game Jam that I actually beat.

I'm not sure why, but moving the player felt very sluggish.

CREATIVITY: 3/5

I've seen games like this before.

GRAPHICS/SOUND/POLISH: 2/5

Pixel graphics are ok. Not very obvious what objects are. There was one graphic that looked like either a set of stairs or a boot.

No music and basic sound effects.

OVERALL: 70%

This reminds me a lot of the games I used to play on a Macintosh in elementary school back in the day. Better graphics and faster player movement would make this more fun to play.

Thank you for the review.

Yes, the gameplay feels sluggish, but so do other Family BASIC games that don't use peeking and poking. But I could've made the movement better.

Regarding graphics, Family BASIC does not let you use custom graphics.

Really cool seeing a NES game here. Wish there were more levels but enjoyed what I played.

Developer

Thanks for playing.

Wish I could have put more levels too but I hit the 4KB memory limit :(

I want to do this game justice one day.
