We're celebrating the release of the Pitcrawler SRD and third party license with a game jam!
Adventures! Random tables! Magic items! Enemies! Settings! Whole new games! Whatever you like, be it grim and perilous or twee and whimsical, it's all fit to crawl!
Pitcrawler is MacGuffin & Co's new two-player fantasy TTRPG. Inspired by adventure gamebooks, one player acts as the GM while the other is the Adventurer. It's rules-lite, with a simple, flexible system that generates cool challenges, interesting choices, devious puzzles and wicked fights.
Check out Pitcrawler here or scroll down for the SRD.
The world of Pitcrawler operates on principles not lore. This is a reality fractured by powerful and aloof wizards, each dramatically reshaping their domain in their own image. You are not a wizard, nor will you ever become one. Instead, you travel between these realms, trying to eke out a living in the shadows of these mighty mages. Beyond this, the world is yours: who exactly are these wizards? Where does the adventurer ply their trade? How gritty, bizarre or downright silly is this world? All this is to be decided by the players... or by cool, discerning games designers like you!
The SRD provides all the rules necessary to create whatever you like for a game of Pitcrawler. Create magic items, design fearsome foes, invent your own idiosyncratic wizards or compile a full adventure to be dropped into any campaign!
You're never going to believe this, but it turns out that a two-player rules-lite TTRPG riffing on the vibes of old adventure gamebooks doesn't necessarily have to be about overbearing wizards. It doesn't even have to be fantasy! So we thought we'd throw the system open to whatever other worlds or games people want to come up with. Starcrawler, Cybercrawler, Noircrawler, three different games all competeing over the name Cthulhucrawler... Wherever you want to crawl, you can make it happen with the Dicecrawler SRD, the stripped-down core mechanics of the Pitcrawler system that gives you everything you need to make a game of your own.
Whatever you want. You can sell it, give it away for free, keep it safe and secret - it's up to you. But we will be putting together an opt-in Itch bundle of submissions, with all payments split between creators, and we'll be linking to some of our favourite submissions (also opt-in) on the Pitcrawler website after the jam.
