Welcome to the first ever Mario Jams game jam, Jammers Jam #1. This competition is all about making a game in one week (roughly) and trying to learn something in the process. All skill levels are welcomed, and every entry will be played by our three judges. The theme will be revealed here on itch.io and on the Mario Jams YouTube channel when the competition starts. If you'd like to discuss the jam and share progress, join the Mario Jams Discord server! In addition, we will stream all the submissions after the submission period is over, so follow the Mario Jams Twitch channel as well. Here are the rules:

  • Your entry must have been made during the jam period. We will not accept late entries.
  • You must own all the content of your game. That means no AI generated assets or copyrighted materials.
  • The game must work on Windows PCs, any other platform is optional. Our judges do not have VR headsets so don't bother trying to make a VR game. Preferably, make sure your entry works with the itch.io launcher.
  • Your entry will be disqualified if it contains bigoted content, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.
  • Your entry will be disqualified if it contains NSFW or adult content.

Entries are judged based on 3 criteria, its Gameplay, Style, and Theme. Gameplay is graded based on how fun your game is, what unique mechanics it has, and whether the gameplay works with its style and theme. Style is everything about the presentation, from graphics, to sound and music, to quality of life features and polish. Finally, Theme is graded based on how well your entry relates to the theme of the competition, and how well it is executed in game, whether it is a superficial detail or core to the experience of your game.

Winners receive the Jam Winners role in our Discord server as well as eternal bragging rights.

Good luck, and happy jamming!
