We're Kindred Games! Our main project is Swords 'n Magic and Stuff out on Steam in early access.

We do quarterly game jams here on itch.io. Check out this video we made about game jams!

The number one rule is to have fun! What's the point if it's not fun? Do not make a game that includes hate speech or NSFW content. It will be removed. If you use any pre-made assets, code libraries, sprites, 3D models, purchased items, or otherwise you must give credit to the creator in your submission to be rated properly! Please stay within the timeframe of the jam. We reserve the right to disqualify your game if we feel it doesn't meet our community standards.

This jam has two separate themes to use.

There will be a visual theme and traditional theme. These will go hand in hand. The visual image needs to be represented somewhere in your game. Get creative - don't just put it as a picture on your wall. Use it as an item, a storytelling mechanic, anything. The second will be a phrase like we've done before. The final image and phrase will be revealed at the jam's launch time and posted at the top of the page.

This jam will be voted on by the public for four days after submissions close; anyone is welcome to vote! The overall winner of the public voting will be the Community Choice Winner! Our Moderation Team will also be going through and picking their top game to be the Mod's Choice Winner!

Voting will start at the end of the jam and be open through October 30th, 11:59pm PST.

Submissions will be judged on 5 criteria:

  1. Gameplay - How well does the game play? Do you want to keep playing it? Do you enjoy this game?
  2. Creativity - How creative was the game? Were there a lot of elements that caught your attention?
  3. Art Style - Is the art consistent throughout the game? Does it match the gameplay?
  4. Audio - Does the music match the gameplay? Does the audio not distract from gameplay, but add to it?
  5. Use of Traditional Theme - How well does the game include the traditional theme? Was it easily recognizable?
  6. Use of Visual Theme - How creative was the visual theme used in the game? Was it on a wall as a last minute addition or integrated into the game?

*IMPORTANT* If you use external assets, you need to CLEARLY state this on your submission page. For any of the categories that use external assets, please keep your rating to a maximum of 4.

When submissions end, join Kindred Games on Twitch to start playing some of the entries! We'll be taking submissions as people come to stream and play them in the order they are submitted! We can't guarantee they will all get played, but you'll be able to get some amazing feedback.

Prizes are:

One winning game will be receiving a $20 Steam Gift Card to be determined by the Moderation Team.

Community Choice Winner: The Super Haunted Music Pack by Hamish

Mod's Choice Winner: The Super Haunted Music Pack by Hamish

The two winning games will be announced on the Community Tab on October 31st at 10am PST. This is also when the results will be public.

We have the wonderful Hamish's music made specifically for this game jam! Hamish has participated in multiple Kindred Games Community Game Jams, including being part of quite a few winning games. He's able to really capture what the game is going for and we're happy to have his music available for you all to use if you choose.

Is there a team member limit? For this jam we are limiting teams to a maximum of FOUR people.

How long is the jam? This jam will be 7 days from October 20th at 10AM PST to October 27th at 10AM PST. There will be an extra hour submission period from 10AM PST to 11AM PST on the 27th.

What game engines can I use? The options are endless. Anything you want! There are some resources for engines at the bottom of this page, but you are not limited to these options.

Can I enter if I've never made a game? YES! We want you to enter! All skill levels are welcome.

Where can I find team members? Join the Community Tab on this jam or check out our discord where we have plenty of people ready to team up.

Can I upload a new build of my game after submissions are closed? We're locking submissions during the rating period to ensure everyone plays the same version. You are welcome to upload a new build after this time. Give yourself enough time to build and submit a playable game!
