What's the name of your experience?
Constructive

Please describe your creation.
The OpenScad tool and language for creating 3d graphics fascinates me. I find the the text programming language is sometimes the very best way to create shapes and sometimes ridiculously hard. In addition, the lack of interaction in the tool for complicated models can slow development.

Using an Oculus Rift with a head mounted Leap Motion to build graphics is almost the exact opposite of OpenScad. This encourages a very natural feel of touching and moving objects in a "real" world.

Constructive explores the idea of bringing these two worlds together so that you can enjoy both the clean symbolic form of constructive solid geometry and the natural form of VR as enabled by just using your hands in the Leap.

There were a number of low level challenges in this project - including building a GPU based CSG engine and building a compiler and AST representation of a small subset of OpenScad that could support this sort of interactive work process.

Creating a good quality natural hand based interface using the Leap proved to also be a challenge. The version here is a first step, but there's a long road ahead before we get great natural VR interfaces.

Programming language?
Unity/C# (with lots of Python helper scripts)
