If you want to make your own games, the best way to do it is to start with a small project! This is the first in what will hopefully be a series of game jams hosted by Flyover Indies aimed at helping the participants learn the skills they need to make some basic games. We're not experts in any language or engine, so we'll all be learning as we go!
A ball and paddle game would be something like Pong or Breakout. Participants are welcome and encouraged to put whatever kind of spin they want on their game. It is, of course, completely fine to just make a pong clone, but you'll probably learn more if you try to add some original mechanics to it.
The goal of the jam is for everyone who participates to become comfortable enough with their tools to make a game of this type. Therefore, rather than working in a team, we should consider ourselves one huge team working together to that end!
We only ask that everyone (yes, even YOU), post about their projects in the forums, ask questions, and give help to others! Feel free to post tutorials, post-mortems, share advice, etc.
You're welcome to use any language or engine you'd like. The submission deadline is the 14th of November, but don't get to hung up about it. Take the time you need to learn!
If you have any questions or suggestions, let us know!
Flyover Indies is a Kansas City area independent game developer community, however anyone who wants to learn and practice is welcome to join the jam! For more info about the Flyover Indies, check out our website: http://flyoverindies.party/
