This is a jam to help the Forged in the Dark community share their experiences playing FitD games. Hopefully we can glean some insight into what works, what doesn't, how we can get better, and which tools have helped us.
The point is not to construct a definition of "what is FitD", but to feel out the fuzzy boundaries of the zeitgeist. The question is: what are people playing FitD games (however they define that) doing right now?
Multiple viewpoints on the same topic are encouraged! Two points make a line, after all.
You could write about:
- GM and/or player advice. What helped you be a better GM or player?
- Play techniques. During the game, or outside
it.
- Common mistakes. How do you avoid them?
- Answers to frequently asked questions.
- Tweaks to existing games. Include your reasoning and
intent.
- Your experiences running Forged in the Dark games.
- Regular games, open tables, play by post, GM-less.
- One-shots, multiple seasons, long campaigns.
- Fan-created content.
- Using other games in concert with FitD games.
Worldbuilding, crossovers, etc.
- Something else! Surprise us!
Guidelines
- Be constructive. Don't just tear things down, try to offer solutions.
- Playtest your ideas. Ideas are valuable, but it is more valuable to know if they work, or why they don't.
- Be opinionated. Write about what has worked best for you. If you know you have certain tastes then note that, but you don't need to appeal to everyone.
Submission Requirements
- It should relate to playing Forged in the Dark games.
- Blades in the
Dark counts, of course.
- Writing about a specific game, a group of them, or FitD as a whole are all fine.
- 2000 words or less. Break up big topics into multiple submissions/subtopics.
- Downloadable as PDF, markdown, or plain text.
- Don’t submit bigoted or hateful content. It will be
removed.
FAQ
- You can submit:
- things you previously wrote and/or published
elsewhere.
- things you previously submitted to another jam.
- system-agnostic advice, if you explain how it applies to Forged in the Dark games.
- works in progress, and finish/revise them after the jam ends.
- You can charge for your work. I’d encourage you to have community copies, and/or release a
plain text version for free.
