Briefly describe your project
This project uses ARDK Wayspot coverage, Wayspot localization (VPS), Shared AR for networking and Lightship maps. Wayspot Collector encourages exploration and activity by allowing players to compete to collect the most Wayspots in an area. We envisage the game being played in two distinct ways. In direct competition the players race each other between the same points to try to capture the Waypoint first. In the second players can take different routes to try to out manoeuvre their opposition. This project uses the Wayspots Coverage feature to find Wayspots close to a user and then visualises their position using Lightship maps. The project uses the Shared AR networking functions to communicate the positions of players and their current captured Wayspots. One of the core goal of this project is to allow users to enjoy the outdoors together. It hopes to foster fun competition, whether that is purely physical with users racing between Waystops or more tactical with users trying to spot the most efficient routes to capture. Another core goal of this project is to encourage activity. Through friendly competition we can encourage people to walk further and faster than they might otherwise. Essentially the project gives people a reason to wander While not focused on learning we would hope that the game might encourage exploration and inquisitiveness while encouraging users to experience their surroundings in a new way, whether that means seeing their own city in a different way or exploring somewhere new. Culture, exploration, inquisitiveness The core goals of this project is to encourage users to go out into the world and play together. Using Wayspots the environment becomes the goal or resource of the game. We think this type of game is especially compelling because it encourages people to take different routes through the environment than they might otherwise, hopefully leading people to discover new locations and paths they might not otherwise have known about.
