Introduction

There are many TV shows people feel nostalgic towards.  There are many movies people feel nostalgic towards.   There are many video games people feel nostalgic towards.  Finally, there are many video games based on movies and TV shows people feel nostalgic towards.  Now's your chance to pay homage to all of this nostalgia!

Whether you want to capture the genuine fandom for things like Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo 64 or the anti-fandom for old turkeys like that first Ghostbusters game on the NES, your mission is to create a video game tie-in to an old movie or TV show, which seems like it could have existed at the time but didn't actually.

Rules/Guidelines:

1) The time-frame for acceptable adaptations is 1980 to 2010.

2) Try to select a subject that didn't actually have any game tie-ins originally.  I say "try" because quite a lot of media have had tie-ins, and I don't want any participants thinking they need to go on a wild goose chase for something that hasn't.  But maybe at least try to stand out by not choosing something that has many famous game tie-ins, like the Ninja Turtles or Aladdin.

3) The graphics and sound should reflect the technology that was available at the time the source material was made.  In other words, if you make a Rainbow Brite game it should feel 8-bit, while if you make a Freakazoid game, it should feel 16-bit.  This, too, is more of a suggestion.  I recognize that understanding the nuances of what is and is not within those limits is beyond many people, myself included.  Likewise, since 3D is often more complicated to make than 2D, it's not super-mandatory that the post-90s games be 3D.   Just bare in mind that the point of this game jam is to capture the spirit of an era, as best as possible.

4) AI is allowed, on the condition that you disclose that you used it and specify how.

5) Likewise, mature content is allowed but you should give a warning.

6) All engines are allowed, but mods are not, unless the core game is completely free.

Don't worry if what you made sucks; lots of licensed games do.  That said, if you make something great I'll be likely to remember you and possibly want to collaborate in the future.
