Bugs! They’re just like us. So let’s celebrate our littlest friends with a game jam all about bugs!

The goal of this jam is to show some appreciation for the creepy crawlers of the world, by making them the stars of their own stories. All genres are welcome, as are all mediums- video game, comic, ttrpg, visual novel, assets, music; the sky is the limit!

You may work alone, or in teams- feel free to collaborate!

Also, this jam is unranked- it’s just for fun, and for the sake of putting out more bug positivity into the world!

While the jam officially starts November 14th, you can start working on the project beforehand (I was initially going to publish this earlier but life got in the way xP).

Theme: Bugs!

Optional theme: Love- romantic, platonic, familial, whatever!

Rules:

  • Bugs must be a central theme/focus of your game. While they don’t HAVE to be the playable character(s), they should focus prominently in the game! (Arachnids, terrestrial crustaceans, and gastropods are accepted as honorary bugs).
  • Please try to refrain from making bugs the enemies in your game. This jam is about appreciating bugs! So no ‘bug squashing simulators’ or anything like that. Something with a bug trying to hunt/survive against other bugs is fine.
  • Anthro and humanoid bugs are welcome!
  • Mild NSFW is allowed (body horror, gore, suggestive themes), but make sure to mark it accordingly!
  • Should go without saying, but racism, sexism, and LGBTQphobia are not welcome here. If your game is found to promote any of these things, it will be removed.
  • Your game can be commercial or non commercial, just make sure you have the rights to use any assets you’re using!
  • Using pre-made assets is fine, so long as you have the permissions to use them!
  • Generative AI is not allowed for this jam.

If you have any questions, or are unsure if your idea meets the criteria, please feel free to reach out in the community!
