Welcome to the 4th instalment of the Low Stakes High-Rolling jam! In this jam you get two weeks to create a game based on a specific theme. That theme will be announced at the start of the jam. Afterwards, everyone can vote on the submissions to decide the winner, even those that didn't submit.
Low Stakes High-Rolling is meant for everyone, beginners and pros alike. The stakes are, well, low and you don't need to try very hard. I'm excited to see what you make, so give it a shot!
If you want, you can join our discord server. There you can ask questions about the jam and meet other participants. You can even team up with other people!
Theme:
We all know that many things are recycled and we are told recycling is good.
Use some element – a character, a plot, a “lesson”, interactions, whatever – from a myth, legend, fairy tale, fable, or saga which catches your fancy and re-interpret/incorporate it into a SCI-FI game setting. It can be as simple as you want.
Let yourself be inspired by mythology from any culture or, for example, elements from classic fables by Hans Christian Andersen, The Brothers Grimm, Scheherazade, Charles Perrault, Aesop and others. Use one of your cultural favorites, as obscure as you wish, but tell us and give it some new exposure in the world of sci-fi.
In your submission description, list the element and the mythological source. You can explain it in more detail if you wish.
Have a blast!
Please avoid NSFW (18+) content and be mindful of others. Don't make games meant to bully or harass other people, either individuals or groups.
You are allowed to use assets made by others. Do however make sure that you have the proper licenses and to give credit where credit is due.
We wish that you submit games created specifically for this jam. To avoid spam entries we might remove games that clearly don't follow this rule (e.g. entries that were submitted to multiple different jams or games that clearly don't follow the given theme). If you are worried that your approach to the theme might be unconventional you can explain it in your game's description.
Once the jam is over you have one week to play and rate other games. Entries will be voted on judging by four different criteria:
Creativity: Making a game can be hard and you don't need to shoot for the stars. No game can be entirely unique, but if a game strikes you as special or creative, be sure to reward it with a good score here!
Aesthetic/Atmosphere: The way a game looks and feels is important. Did the sounds and art make for an interesting game world that felt vibrant and alive? Then it should shine in this category!
Entertainment: Creating art and sound assets or polishing the game mechanics can be time consuming. But even a simple game can be fun to play. If you had a good time playing a game, it deserves a good score!
Use of the theme: There is no correct interpretation of the theme. Games that make use of it in a creative or unexpected way or those with a very well rounded approach prevail in this category!
The creators of the three best rated games will receive a shoutout on the jam page and on our discord server as well as a special role :)
There were lots of great entries in our previous three jams, here are some of the best ranking submissions. Maybe they can inspire you to make something awesome as well :)
This jam is being hosted by the Creator's Campfire (https://discord.gg/5vmjsPddUW). If you have any questions regarding the jam, feel free to ask them there.
All that being said, we wish you good luck creating your games and don't forget to have fun :)
