This game is definitely harmed by the low resolution restriction- it feels like you're squinting at a tiny part of a GBA screen... I tapped shift which apparently skipped a ton of battles, so I only REALLY experienced the last one, when I finally took my hands off the dang keyboard and let the entry animations all play...

The gameplay is solid! Although I'm not sure how much strategy is truly involved, since the units aren't very differentiated in terms of strengths and weaknesses, seeming more like there are simply "strong" units and "weak" units. (As in, I didn't really have to hide certain units behind others to keep them away from their weaknesses while allowing them to strike their strengths. Just kinda drove over the advancing human wall)

I saw some subpixels in there!! The healthbars seem misaligned with the pixel grid behind them, and the animation between levels definitely doesn't follow a 64x64 restriction. By the minuscule 3x3 font, though, I can tell there were efforts and sacrifices made to stick to the resolution restriction.

I made it until the last stage where I came into a state that was impossible to win or lose since the units couldn’t attack each other (underground and air).

This is a really nice game that could shine a lot more with a bit more polishing and helpful displays like

  • Showing which unit already acted
  • Making the attack animations and slow HP reduction animation and/or damage numbers so you see clearly whether and how much damage you’ve done
  • Having a Pause Menu with Retry

The graphics and musics are great… especially the Zerg Alien Overlord with its fleshy base animation during talking was really nice… the font though is very hard to read. (The final tank/airplane/drill enemies felt veeeery reminiscent of a certain Strategy RPG for the Gameboy advance ;) )

Good job!!

I tried the tutorial first (which I can see from the game page isn't fully functioning so that's fine). I then got through to the 2nd level but I ended up in a situation where I only had some subterranean troops and the enemies had a flying one, meaning I couldn't attack them and they couldn't attack me which was a shame.

The Audio was pretty decent but I was struggling to make out some of the words for the story elements which was a shame as I could see that some effort went into that!

I think without the resolution restriction and a bit more polish, the vision for this game could be matched.
