WELCOME

Welcome to Low Stakes High-Rolling. In this jam you get one month to create a game that is set in a sci-fi environment. This competition is meant to be beginner friendly, how good you are at making games doesn't matter. You can work in teams or alone.

The submissions will be voted on. The creators of the highest ranking game will receive a shoutout to their game and social media of their choice (on our discord server) and I will give you a detailed review for your game. Additionally I can offer a special role on the discord server, I can sadly not provide any more valuable prizes.

It's highly encouraged to make games that are playable in browser. That way, as many people as possible can play and rate your game.

RATING

When rating games, you should consider three aspects. Your game doesn't have to peak in all aspects, but you should work on all of them. They consist of:

  • Originality. Your game should be somewhat unique, presenting new gameplay mechanics or an interesting story. You do not have to outright revolutionize the gaming industry, but try to not simply copying other games.
  • Execution of the criteria. This might just be the most important point. It is crucial that your game is set in a sci-fi world. The exact setting is open to your interpretation, but even that has its limits.
  • Entertainment. This should be pretty self-explanatory. The more I enjoy playing your game, the better.

In order to stimulate variety within the jam, we are creating 3 categories for special mentions. The highest ranked game is the overall jam winner. In addition, each game can classify themselves into one of three categories if they wish, and the top game in each category (excluding the overall winner) will receive special mention. The categories are: V = vehicle: any sci-fi vehicle with special attributes which add to the sci-fi game experience I = interactivity: this includes any interesting way to interact with the game which contributes to the sci-fi element, whether by strategy, operation, weapon, story P = planet: any sci-fi modifications to Earth or any strange new planets, odd planet terrains, special laws of gravity, etc.

Because the letters of the category are VIP, we call these the VIP mentions.

If you want to be considered for a VIP mention, please put your category after your title. (Example: "Millennium Falcon Game - V") Be as creative as you want!

RULES

Rules are part of every competition. The following are the rules I would like you to obey. Submissions that break these rules might be removed.

  • Games must be playable on Windows 10. I would like to be able to test your games on my Window 10 laptop. It is recommended that you make a version playable in a browser so Mac users can play it aswell. But a build for Windows is just as good.
  • Keep your game SFW. No NSFW (18+) content, offensive content, gore. This game jam should stay SFW.
  • Used assets must be credited. You are allowed to use pre-made assets, but if you decide to do so, you must properly credit the creators somewhere in the game.
  • No harassement. No racist, sextist or offensive content.
  • You may work in teams or solo. It's up to you.
