Welcome to Major Jam! Major Jam is a 1 week (7 days) long game jam!
Major jam is a spinoff of the biweekly game jam Mini Jam. It involves a required condition that is announced as soon as it starts. Remember, limitation breeds creativity.
You get the theme early so you can plan ahead, Just keep the limitation in mind. This jam's theme is Retro. Remember, theme is purely inspirational and not required. Feel free to interpret it however you want.
LIMITATION!
The limitation is a special condition that your game must follow, but is open to interpretation. If your game does not follow the limitation, it may be removed.
Limitation: 96x96 screen resolution
The game must have a maximum resolution of 96 pixels by 96 pixels. Imagine you're making a game for a console that has a screen of this size. You'll want to keep in mind which elements need more room and how small you can make any given element on screen before they blur into the background.
Q: Can I upscale my game?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I add non-pixel perfect filters over said upscale?
A: No, keep it pure 96x96.
Q: Can I go below 96x96?
A: Of course.
Q: Can I make a 3d game?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I try to get around the limitation creatively?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I have boarders around the screen?
A: Yes, if they don't affect gameplay.
Q: What about splash screens that go out of the established res?
A: If it's out of your control, it's fine.
RATING!
At the end of the Jam, there will be a rating period that lasts 5 days. Your game will be rated on:
Enjoyment - How much you enjoyed your time with the game. Concept - How interesting or unique the main focus of the game was. Presentation - How well executed the main focus of the game was. Use of limitation - How well the game incorporated the given limitation.
RULES!
- You may only make your game
within the time frame, we do check. However, updates are allowed after the game has been submitted - No harassment of any kind.
- Keep game content clean.
No NSFW content, offensive content, excessive gore/violence. You can use pre-made assetsthat were not made for this jam, like asset packs, or assets from older projects of yours.- Follow the limitations given.
- You can use
any tools you like. Read the rules. Not reading the rules is not an excuse for breaking them.
Any games that do not follow these rules may be removed from the jam.
