Hello there! This is a game jam where you have 5 days to make a game based on a preexisting IP. Your game also has to follow a certain theme, which will be announced when the jam starts.
The jam will be starting on the 25th of June at 12 PM PST, and ending 5 days later, on the 30th of June at 12 PM PST.
After the jam ends there will be a period where everyone can vote for the games submitted. The results and the winning games will get announced on the 5th of July.
This installment of the jam is also a bit special because in July we will be celebrating MFGG's 20th anniversary!
You can share your games on Twitter using the #MFGGJam hashtag if you want us to retweet your stuff.
And the theme is...
Crossover!
That's right, you will make a fangame that's not just based on one franchise, but two! How you do that is entirely up to you though, as long as 2 (or more) different game franchises are involved in some way it counts!
And before anyone asks, sub-franchises like Yoshi, Wario, and even Mario Kart count as separate franchises as well, at least for the purpose of this jam.
Anyone! You're even allowed to form teams, with a maximum of 5 people.
Nope! Any fangame based on any franchise is welcome, and we are leaving the definition for "franchise" very open-ended. It could be a video game franchise, or it could be your favorite YouTuber. Up to you!
That being said, your game has to be a fangame of some sort. No original indie games are allowed.
You can make your own, or you can just use ones made by others and that are available to use. You can even use assets from commercial games, we are making fangames after all.
Just make sure to give proper credit when needed, and state which assets you're using that you do not own.
Doesn't matter. As long as your game is playable on a Windows system, you can use any game engine or framework. That being said, you can't base your game off of existing code. You can follow tutorials, but the base for your game should start development after the theme gets announced.
So basically, you can use game engines like Unity or GameMaker, but you can't just use frameworks like Hello Engine or Sonic Worlds.
Yeah, we do accept ROM hacks and mods! There are, however, some further restrictions with those.
Also, you have to keep in mind that the voting categories will be shared between all games, and ROM hacks tend to get far less attention compared to regular fangames in these fangame jams. So you will be at an immediate disadvantage, keep this in mind!
Nintendo doesn't like it when fans remake their games, so your game should be relatively original. A demake of Super Mario Galaxy is not okay, but a Super Mario Galaxy inspired fangame is.
This rule applies to non-Nintendo fangames as well, just to keep things fair.
No, but it would be nice. :')
