What is Monster of the Week?

Monster of the Week is an action-horror tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), created by Michael Sands. In this game, players take on the roles of Hunters, investigating and battling supernatural threats. You can learn more about the game and purchase it from the Evil Hat Productions shop.

What is This?

Monster of the Week Game Jam: Game Jam of the Month is an unofficial Monster of the Week (MotW) game jam created by two MotW fans. Starting on July 1st and ending on July 31st, we encouraged you to create for MotW, including new hacks, mysterious, playbooks, monster stats, zines, or anything related to the game. Each week, there is a new, optional "monster" of the week, representing the theme of the week. While you are free to submit past works, we highly recommend creating new works for the game jam. Hopefully, the themes can spark your creativity!

At the end of the game jam, every submitted work will be included in a game bundle. Everyone who is in the bundle will share the profit equally, regardless of the number of submissions one has. The price of the bundle will be decided in the official Discord server of this jam.

Third Party Policy

Since every work will be included in the game bundle, every work submitted must follow Generic Games Third Party Policy. Everyone should read the third party policy to ensure your work does not violate any policies. Here are part of the rules:

• Do not attempt to present your work as an official Generic Games or Monster of the Week product.
• You are welcome to quote or use snippets of text that are needed for rules purposes (for example, reproducing the text of a threat type and description in a Monster of the Week mystery).
• If you wish to quote a larger piece of text (for example, reproducing some paragraphs of advice for a derivative game) that may or may not be acceptable. Please ask permission directly.
• For compatible works, please include a note like: “For use with Monster of the Week by Michael Sands.” Also add the following copyright notice: “Monster of the Week is copyrighted by Evil Hat Productions, LLC and Generic Games.”
• For derivative works, please include a note like: “Derived from Monster of the Week by Michael Sands”

Submissions Start: Monday, July 1st, 2024

Submissions Deadline: Wednesday, July 31st, 2024

Bundle Approvals: Saturday, August 3rd - Saturday, August 10th, 2024 (1 Week)

Bundle Duration: Sunday, August 11th - Sunday, September 15th, 2024 (1 month)

Guidelines

1. MoTW: Your work must be MotW related. It could be a zine created for MotW, a comic created for your MotW campaign, a hack to turn MotW into a medieval setting game, but it must be MoTW related. Any non-related submission will be removed.
2. Follow Policy Guideline: While it would not be feasible to check every single submitted work, if we notice any work that does not follow the third party policy above, your work will be removed. 
3. Inclusivity: Our game jam is a space for everyone. We do not tolerate any form of bigotry, including but not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or fascism. Ensure your submissions are inclusive and respectful.
4. No A.I.: No A.I. generated work is allowed. You may use generators for inspiration, or programs such as Grammarly for spell-checking and proof reading, but completely A.I. generated work is prohibited.
5. Old Works: You may submit previously created works. However, we encourage the creation of new and fresh content.
6. Multiple Submissions: Feel free to submit more than one piece of work. 
7. Optional Themes: The theme of each week is optional. Your work does not require to follow the theme.

Important Information

All participants must approve of the bundle before it can be made public. Only minimal edits can be made afterwards and we will not be able to edit the participants or projects. We will send out a mass email as a reminder, as well as on the official Discord and the community tab afterwards.
