Welcome all to this wonderful little shack that I call the "Vintage Emporium" again.

Jam Information

Once again for the second year in a row, we will be looking at some fine games that are being made that were forgotten about a long time ago.

The original idea of this Jam was to make a Game & Watch game, but that then sprawled off into just making a game that was between the 70s - 85, With the games being simple in nature due to the period that this Jam is set in. That doesn't mean that people can't make some great stuff when given limitations. As stated above the Jam will run from the 16th of June to the 14th of July to give people enough time to make a nice simple game, after this it will then be voting time for you guys and us on the 21st. After which we will come out and announce the winner here on the Jam page.

You are allowed to make your game in any game maker you have, though we do suggest that you make the game in either Godot, Game Maker 1.4 or Game Maker 2.

If you make a game that is styled after the Game & Watch. I will appreciate you more for the thought you may put into the game.

Any game that is submitted to the Game Jam within the period set above, I (Mr Scotsman) will stream it 2 days after the Jam ends. So please don't leave in anything that might not be suitable for streaming if possible, though if this does get in the way of the theme you were going for. Please get in contact with me on the discord server about it and we can have a discussion about it.

Some rules

•Game console that you are putting your fake game on must be between 1970 to 85.

•You can use the NES or Famicom, but those systems already have enough fangames for them, be experimental with other consoles!

•You can't make an arcade game as they didn't have a full standard and would use random components, stick to either premade computers or consoles.

•DO NOT steal another person's game, if I find this out. You will be instantly banned for a unknown period of time.

•Try and use a original project, please don't grab an already finished project as that takes the fun out of this contest. Although if you have files you want to use from another project you have, you can do that.

•If you are planning on making a team, please make sure it is at max 3 people. This makes sure this event stays fair, once you have your team formed make sure you ping me about it in here.

Prizes

The prizes this year will be:

1st place winners get a month of full Nitro and the gold role.
2nd place winners get a month of normal Nitro and the silver role.
3rd place winners get the bronze role on discord.

I thought I would add an incentive this year since last time was more just having fun with it.

Suggestion Consoles/Personal Computers

If you are struggling to find a console to do for this Jam or you don't really know what would fit, here is some examples:

  • Atari 2600 or 5200
  • Game & Watch
  • ZX Spectrum
  • Commodore 64
  • ColecoVision
  • Vectrex
  • TV Colour Game
  • Master System

Look here if you need more of an idea for a console before 85:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_generation_of_video_game_consoles#1983%E2%80%931984

(Third generation link is broken, so copy it into your search bar.)

The only system you cannot do is arcade, due to being able to use any type of technology at the time and have the ability to run anything.

The Criteria for Voting

The judges will vote on if:

  • it is authentic to the console that the submitter has stated it is.

This is when the users come in, as they can vote on if:

  • it has fun gameplay to the user.
  • it period accurate enough to the user.
  • it is innovative to the user.

Extra Objectives (Not mandatory)

If you are feeling extra special/ have time, you can try making near authentic box art or a near authentic manual to explain your game. If this is done. We'll take that in with the game and also vote on if it's authentic enough. Making these will not contribute to your final score.

(If you are going to do a box art/manual, please upload it with the game when you are submitting to the Jam.)

Extra serious stuff

Please make sure that what you uploaded is YOUR game and is the correct version, we will not take responsibility if you are the one in the wrong.

Make your project with stuff you own, even if your game is your own. Having DMCA music or graphics not made by you or your team will get your submission disqualified, so please make this yourself and don't take copyrighted content and put it into your game.

Any submission(s) you upload to the Jam will still be your own product, we retain no rights of your project to use in the future.

With all that said, have a lovely time bringing a far gone era of gaming back to the present!
