Narrat Jam Mini

This is the first Narrat Jam Mini Edition 🤏

It's your chance to try [narrat](https://narrat.dev/), or to make another narrat game if you already have!

April 12th to April 30th, 2024

This gives you a bit more than two weeks, and three full weekends. Use as little or as much of this time as you want to. It's Narrat Jam Mini, so you can make a very small game if you want.

You can start in advance if you already have an idea

But what is Narrat?

Narrat is a narrative game engine. It is particularly good at making visual novels, interactive fiction, point and click adventures, and narrative RPGs like Disco Elysium. Narrat is also designed to be very simple and fast to work with

Here are some screenshots of games made in Narrat:

This is a demo video of the engine (with extremely placeholder content)

Introduction

I wanted to try a way to give more chances for people to join narrat jams as a smaller event. This jam is meant to be taken casually and to encourage people to create smaller projects.

This is also why it's released as a surprise: To give people a chance to create something simple without worrying too much about it. Just try to make something, and submit whatever you want, even if it's not finished or polished, or even a prototype. What matters is to create something.

Rules

Keeping this lightweight, no fucking around with themes this time. The rules are simply to not submit anything illegal or full of hate speech etc. To clarify a few things:

  • You can submit projects you had already started before
  • You can submit games to other jams
  • You can submit prototypes or unfinished games that you plan to update later (but should aim to an experience that's at least playable when you submit)
  • You can use whatever tools and assets you want, as long as you have the right to use them
  • You are free to modify the engine, add plugins, or do weird things as long as it's still a narrat game

Theme

There is no theme, but here are some semi-randomly generated words in case you need inspiration:

  • lip
  • bean
  • window
  • talkative
  • scheme
  • style

Not Rules

You are encouraged to, but can do whatever you want:

  • Release the code of your game so other people can learn from it
  • Keep it small in scope to make sure it's finishable in about two weeks
  • Tell all your friends
  • Strongly encourage your friends to join it
  • Bribe your friends to join it
  • Use the Narrat Forums or other socials to discuss projects and help each other
  • I've run out of ideas of what to write here
