Beautiful little round of Poker.

Summary:

Adherence To Theme
  • Fits the Theme well enough, an unusual play on the words flips the theme creatively!
Game Design
  • It's poker. Texas hold 'em in fact. Nothing too out of the ordinary here. You got the job done you set out to do, accomplished production, nice one!
  • I was testing the AI and it seems there was a bit of an issue with her being always suuuper confident with her hand.  No matter how high I raised, she would always raise herself. Sadly I don't know why really, as the game didn't tell me the hand I lost to, loosing a lot of the appeal.
  • This is a bit of a double entendre, could go into Style as well but I chose it to be part of the game design and judged it accordingly. You have this beautiful character art on the opponent side, if only you could implement a mechanic, where one could tell if the opponent's hand is really good or not. For a full version, there could be different opponents with increasingly hard poker faces to read, that would add so much in my opinion!
Originality
  • It's a simple poker game. Plus points for the character design.
Style
  • The environment and character very highly charming, I thought the Anime design didn't subtract from the overall experience at all, although one might find with the excellent "noir" musical track in the background, a more grim art style would fit it a little better.
  • However overall I loved the aesthetic and it was highly appealing and pleasing to look at!

Overall

Nice game of poker. Would play again with some changes to the AI or the poker face mechanic!

Thank you so much for your feed back! The artist and I had some real life issues outside of creating the game so we couldn't release the completed game in time. We do have plans on implementing all of your suggestions as they were criticisms that we also had our selves. I do apologize for some of the bugs, the AI is meant to be customizable to fit different character personalities. For example, I can have one character be more aggressive, one be more reserved etc. I have also since added where it shows you the opponents hand and what you lost/won to. I soon will be uploading a follow up where we implemented what we have originally sought out to accomplish. I thought for the sake of learning, no matter what the state of the game was, I would upload it. Plus we really want to hear feed back from the community.

Again thanks for your comment, I learned a lot from this experience :) P.S. this was our first game jam and first game to see through together.

I hope you are in a better place now and don't beat yourself up too much over it. Health and personal well being is more important than jams.  It's always good to see projects through. This Jam was actually my second one. I have been doing 2 Jams with this Programmer since my programming is very slow. I like what I manage to do but he can't do artworks so I have to do everything. Us being 2 little perfectionists doesn't help either... We didn't yet settle for simple and manageable and it shows. While this game is almost feature complete I feel like my art was slacking quite a bit and I didn't manage to detail everything properly, the detail that is there looks off putting to me, it's a bit noisy and the colors could use a huge touch up! But we are very proud of what we managed to do in this time and so should you 2 be. Very well done!
