"i can only hope this letter isn't the way you find out you were adopted." is my absolute favorite line in this letter. rudi's dread of not knowing if the letter itself will hold more trauma for leslie than she might already have, and the dread as a reader knowing that if her mom is this hands-off, then she probably doesn't know.... crushing to think about. and lovely.
