This game jam is hosted by vedal987 as part of his two-year anniversary subathon.

In this event, you'll have three days to create a game that fits the theme that Neuro-sama chooses. Once the game jam is over, all submissions will be open for voting by other people who have submitted games.

More information on the game jam timeline can be found here.

This year we are also open sourcing the Neuro Game API with SDK implementations for your favorite game engines. This means you could make your game compatible with Neuro or Evil and they could potentially play it on stream. We do not recommend implementing this during the game jam because it will eat up a huge chunk of your time, but there are some things you should keep in mind during development if you want them to be able to play your game later:

  • The API works best with certain genres of games, especially things that are turn based and not real-time. More information can be found at the page linked above.
  • You could make Neuro be the player OR have the game be Neuro vs Vedal. Currently, the API does not support both twins so it's not possible to have Neuro vs Evil.
  • We can't guarantee that your game will be played by Neuro even if you implement the API. This will partly be dependent on demand. There is a chance she will play the games during the subathon but because of timings it could be after. We do hope to get to as many as possible though.
  • This is not part of the jam, and there is no voting category for Neuro integration - but it could be fun! For the jam, keep in mind your game needs to be fully playable even without Neuro integration.

Theme

The theme for this game jam will be chosen by Neuro-sama when the game jam starts.

Submission

When the game jam starts, you will have 72 hours to submit your game. After this period is over, your game uploads will be locked and you will be unable to upload new versions. Please ensure that your game works when you upload it.

When submitting your game, you will have to answer a few questions about it. Keep this is mind and aim to submit your game no later than 10 minutes before the deadline.

Rules

  • You must follow the Itch.io Terms of Service.
  • Submitted games must not contain content that violates the Twitch Terms of Service.
  • Submitted games must not contain NSFW or sexual content.
  • Games should be playable on browsers or Windows desktop.
  • Games must work without any other third party software installed or enabled, including the Neuro integration. Remember that the people reviewing your game won't have Neuro to play with.
  • While you can use pre-existing code or assets, refrain from writing code or creating assets specifically for this jam in advance unless you are releasing an asset pack for everyone to use. Remember that the point of the game jam is for you to create your entire project within the 72 hours period.
  • Feel free to utilize pre-made, publicly available, or purchased assets, as long as you have a license for them and proper credit is given as necessary.
  • AI-generated content is allowed, but it should be kept to a minimum. Do not use excessive amounts of AI-generated code or assets. When submitting, you are required to disclose if your game contains any AI-generated content.
  • After the submission period concludes, there will be a period of time allocated for rating other participants' games. Only people who have submitted a game can vote. If you submitted a game as a team, you are encouraged to review other submissions as a team as well.

Voting Criteria

  • How well does the game fit with the theme of the jam?
  • Each person might interpret the theme differently. When submitting a game, you need to write how it incorporates the theme. Voters should take this into account when reviewing this criteria.

  • Did it feel polished or were there lots of bugs?

Artistic Style (Visuals and Audio)

  • How does the game look? Does it have interesting or unique visuals?
  • How does the game sound? Does it feature a good soundtrack or sound effects?
  • When rating this criteria, please ensure there is no bias towards rhythm games incorporating non-original music.

  • How original or unique is the game?
  • Does the game contain mechanics, ideas, or concepts that stand out?
