This is an absolutely goregeus game with a fantastic concept that is nearly impossible to play.
The visuals are surreal yet haunting with a striking red color palette. I wanted to explore this world further. The cool mechanics were further incentive to keep pushing forward in this game. The idea of having to balance taking advantage of stat boosts and pushing back your growing "doubt" meter.
But even as I gained stats, I never stopped feeling like the game was impossible to beat. The enemy has barely any anticipation in its attack animation, giving the player no time to react. The dodge function appears to be completely useless. If you can land a few hits on the monster, you watch it fade away as though it has died, only it respawns and immediately attacks, which just felt cheap.
Even the stats are little help. Whether or not you get them when you die appears to be random. I had one playthrough where I never got any "spirit".
I hope this doesn't sound harsh. I don't say any of this out of malice. This game is brimming with potential and I would love to see it realized.
The game got a lot of things right compared to most other 3d platformers at it time :)
Ahead of its time. An essential part of every gamer's arsenal.
An underrated classic. A true hidden gem.
One of the best d*mn games I've ever played. I reccomend it pretty frequently. A game with stellar atmosphere, intriguing tone and characters, and an OST that is, like, beyond compare. The OST is unbelievably good, you guys. (Five star podcast, Five star runtime, Five star video game)
