Theme

No Art.

What is allowed:

  • Music
  • Sound
  • Procedural 2D/3D Models  (made with maths, fractals allowed)
  • Primitive 2D/3D Models/Textures (cubes, spheres, squares, circles, triangles...)
  • Text (/custom fonts, as long as they are used to display text)
  • Color Palettes
  • Particles
  • Shaders / Materials
  • Lighting
  • A terrain with curves and different points

What is not allowed:

  • 2D/3D Models that are handmade
  • Pixel Art (if overdone)
  • Drawings
  • Spritesheets (since they contain drawings)
  • AI Art

The limitations aren't in the technology you use in themselves, but rather in the final product.
Everything mathematically based is allowed, and you can combine some primitives together to make a stickman, or pacman for example.
However, if you start adding so many primitives together it starts looking like Link from Zelda, you already know yourself you are trying to bypass the limitations.

As long as you don't open a drawing/modelling software or try to bypass the theme, you should not have anything to worry about.

I am trusting on your common sense to estimate the limits.
The limitations will not be severly enforced, and if it appears like you tried to respect them, it's good enough.

Getting inspiration

No idea? Look at already existing games that would fit in:

Arcade games, platformers, rhythm games, strategy games... as you can see, the genre isn't limited, and some pretty popular games have been made with these restrictions, so you can make one too!

Recommendations

This gamejam is an opportunity for those not good at drawing / modelling to have their game shine.

It is allowed, and even recommended, to submit games that have been made in other game jams, as long as it was made during the time of this gamejam.
Some famous examples:

It is recommended to publish HTML5 so that others can play your game easily, and without the worry that they are downloading a virus.

Even if it is a "No Art" jam, having a proper presentation is important. It is the opportunity for those who aren't familiar with art to learn basic concepts, and for those being familiar to improve.
