Welcome to the Noir November Jam!

Create a Noir game in 5 days!

Do you know the Noir genre?  It's a stylized Dark Thriller genre. Great movies in the genre are Batman (1989), Se7en, Sin city. And in video games we have L.A. Noir and Backbone that are excellent representations of the genre. If you want to learn more about the genre, you can read about it here, but if you want a recap, this is a list of elements that can be found in most of Noir genre fictions :

Black and White aesthetic, Jazz music, Cynical detectives, Crime scenes, High criminality Cities, Black cats, Rats, The 50s, brothels, Sexy ladies, Silhouettes, etc...

Inspiring? Participate now!
And if you want even more inspiration, I put a together a Pinterest with artistic references in the Noir genre.

Don't forget to Join the DISCORD to discuss with other devs!

-- Rules --

  • The game should be in the Noir theme
  • No NSFW, no extreme and abusive use of gore and free violence for no reason

-- Guidelines --

Guidelines are special conditions that your game must follow, but is open to interpretation. If you are unsure if your idea doesn't fit the guidelines  just remember that everyone will interpret it differently.

We conducted a vote here, and the first 3 winners are

- Crime scenes
- Black and white
- Silhouette

You can pickup one of those guidelines and use it as the theme of your game. You can interpret it as you see fit.

Don't worry, your game will NOT be disqualified if you don't follow the guidelines, but keep in mind that voters will appreciate more the games that follow them than the ones that doesn't.

-- Rating --

At the end of the Jam, there will be a rating period that lasts 6 days. Everybody can rate a game.

Your game will be rated on :

Noir Thematic - How well the Noir genre was represented in this game?
Mood -  Overall Atmosphere, how well the Noir theme is translated into visual and audio. (artistic side)
Execution - Is it well presented, interesting mechanics, no overwhelming bugs. (technical side)
Use of Guidelines - How well the game incorporated the given guidelines.

-- FAQ --

Can I submit a game I already made?  🚫 No. You may only submit projects made within the time frame. YES, we do check.

Can I make changes during the rating period?   🚫 No. Once the deadline has passed, you have to wait after the rating period to polish your game.

Can I join or create a team? ✔️ Yes sure, you can join the Discord and meet our community to team up.

Can I use stock assets? ✔️ Yes, as long as they fit the art-style of the Jam.

What engine can I use?  You can use any engine or framework you like. You can even make your own if you want. Just make sure that everyone can play it.

What platform should my game be compatible with? Any platform, just keep in mind that the less your game will be accessible, the less votes you will have.
