This jam is now over. It ran from 2022-02-05 08:00:00 to 2022-02-14 07:59:59. View results
The Nokia 3310 jam is dedicated to making games with the restrictions of the Nokia 3310! Team up or go solo.
Development of your game from start to finish should only take place between when the jam starts and when the jam ends. If your game does not meet the restrictions of the jam it will be disqualified from being ranked.
Palette
Games can only use the colors #c7f0d8 and #43523d.
Using transparency, like changing the alpha of the colors to make different shades, is not allowed.
Resolution
Games must have a resolution of 84 x 48. You may scale the game's resolution up as long as the base resolution is still 84 x 48. Your game can be either landscape or portrait.
The Nokia 3310 was incapable of subpixel movement and subpixel scrolling so it is NOT allowed. This means all pixels must be perfectly aligned with the pixel grid.
Game Engine
Any game engine is allowed as long as you can set your game's resolution to 84 x 48 or limit the number of pixels the player sees to 84 x 48. It must also be able to use the provided palette.
Sound
Sound should be monophonic. This means only one audio channel and one sound played at a time. Please see the sound resources available for download or check out this video to know what it should sound like.
Controls
Games can have a maximum of 12 controls (the Nokia 3310's keypad). Keyboard only. Controls can be mapped to a numpad but it is recommended you offer alternative mappings like arrow keys or WASD so people without a numpad can still play.
Reuse of Assets and Code
All assets and code, besides what is offered on the Nokia Jam resource page, must be made in the jams duration.
This year games will be ranked via judges. There will be two stages. First a panel of judges will play all submissions and determine the top 10 games. Second a panel of our guest judges will play and rank those 10 to determine first, second, and third place!
Our guest judges are Jupiter Hadley and Nick and Ryan from FunBaseAlpha!
The top 3 games will be featured on next year's jam page. The first place winner gets an exclusive "Nokia Jam 4 Winner" title in the Nokia Jam discord server.
All judges will be using this criteria to judge each game:
Innovation
How unique is the game's design? What was the developer(s) able to accomplish within the restrictions?
Quality
How enjoyable was the game? Were there any bugs or crashes?
Completeness
Is audio present? Does the game feel coherent?
This years optional theme is: UPGRADE!
Upgrades are a big part of many games. Stats, skills, appearances. How can you apply this to your entry? Maybe you go classic with arcade-like powerups. Upgrade the enemies overtime to make the game more difficult. Or maybe even an educational game to upgrade the player’s mind? Interpretation of the theme is up to you!
1st Place: ROBO-TWINS by MATTHEW CODES
2nd Place: BUTTONS TRAIL by WANSOU
3rd Place: HEADED HOME by FIDDLEBOG
