Hello Everyone. I am a game developer from India. I use Godot Engine and am still a beginner. My previous game was supposed to be a FPS multiplayer for the 32-bit Holiday Jam but I got stuck on a stupid error on animation rpcs for which I spent 9 hours trying to figure it out and ended up missing the deadline. Now I have 5 projects in my library waiting to be finished and I am instead of finishing them, hosting a Game Jam and am not finding people to join it. So if you have nothing better to do, want to pass time and want to create a game under 72 hours that too with Numpad controls just for fun. What are you waiting for? Join now. The Jam is starting soon and it still lacks participants. The theme is BASED ON TRUE EVENTS. There are also additional missions alongside it. So whether you are serious about development, or just starting or maybe you were just scrolling through itch.io and found this page here. You are all welcomed here but it is advised that you know what you are doing . Take this challenge by clicking on the Join Jam to improve your skills.
For this Jam, you do not need to own a Numpad. You can use the keys that were given above. It is encouraged to use the numbers(0-9) But you can also use Symbols and other keys only but if you are making a game whose controls are on keyboard or Joystick or a gamepad make sure that the game can also be played on a Numpad . The basic idea for such controls is to make the game a little more difficult.
The theme for the first edition of the Numpad Jam is "Based on true Events". This theme is mandatory but it is open to interpretation. The events on which it is based on can be recent as well as historic. They may be Events that took place in any country. They can be the recent US elections, the World Wars or even the Prehistoric era with dinosaurs in your game.
Also note that there is a reason that it says "Based on true Events" so you are free to make changes to the real storyline as long as they are small or insignificant and does not affect the real story.
If you are a beginner, then you're in luck. You can make any type of game you want that you are confident in or the type of game whose tutorials you have been watching. Just follow this theme and try to make a game with an average session of more than one minute at least. Also mention the event you have chosen for the game somewhere in your splash screen, main menu, in-game, or credits screen to let us know which one you used for being marked on related to theme.
On a side note, Don't let the marking scare you. We are all here to learn. Try to learn some new things along the way instead of following the tutorial blindly. Well that's all from my side. Best of Luck!!
Your mission is to choose to accept these Additional Missions but you are not forced to include them in your game. Additional Missions are optional limitation to add a unique challenge in addition to the theme. Perform one or all. It's your choice. They are revealed at the same time as the theme, and there are always only 3. Ignoring them will not incur a deduction in judging. Please include the name of the mission that you performed in your splash screen, main menu, in-game, or credits screen to let us know which one you used for being marked for them.
The Additional Missions for the First edition of the Numpad Jam are :-
Once again note that ignoring them will not incur a deduction in judging. Well that is all from my side. Best of Luck!!
The game developed should be completed in the given time frame. there are no limitations on the graphics of the game. Even if the Numpad may be the last place to see yourself playing a good game don't hesitate to make it the best game ever. Don't be scared by the judging criteria. The basic idea for this game jam is to improve yourself and your skills. Don't be afraid to try something new. As long as it can be finished within 72 hours. Whether it is based on a YouTube tutorial or it is your creativity and talent.
In special case when there are a lot of bugs in your game, you will be given 24 additional hours to fix the game.
You don't need any previous experience for this Jam. Whether this is your 1st Jam or your 100th. Whether you are a beginner or a professional. The basic idea for this Jam is to complete a project within a given period of time and improve your skills.
You can use any game engine you like as long as they can export the game in html5/WebGL format. It is encouraged to create your own assets but if that is not possible then you may use 3rd party assets. If you are using assets that aren't created by you, you must note and attribute the creator(s) in the game description regardless if the creator(s) asks for it or not. It is encouraged that you make most of the assets yourself.
If you work with others on your game, make sure to add them as contributors to the game's itch.io page. Follow the given steps :-
All games must be submitted in the WebGL/html5 format. This is a must. They should also be free. Don't be the EA kinda guy. Also everyone is encouraged to check out all the submissions before voting and comment on all of them either in the form of appreciation or in the form of feedback.
( Rules are based on a trust & fairness aspect. It can't regulated if people break all or some of them. You have to live with your own conscience. But it can be promised that it will not help you improve if you break them. )
Your game will be judged on the following :-
Q) Is it necessary to use Numpad controls?
A) I guess we can all agree that Numpad is the last place to see a person gaming so why not. The basic idea is to make a proper game based on the theme that may cover additional missions using such controls and making them in such a manner that they are Adaptable. If you don't have a Numpad or don't like the idea of trying to make a game on Numpad controls then it is fine to add other controls along with the numpad controls. you can also use touch controls and mouse and gamepad controls but make sure that the numpad controls work as well.
Promoting your game and this Jam are important so that the next Jam is twice as big as this one. You can stream your progress, or create videos on YouTube about it. Not only Game Developers but Gamers can also stream a Try-It-Out series on YouTube for promotion of this Game Jam. For Retweet Tag @scorpixelite and use #ScorpixeliteNumpadJam.
