What did this game do well?

Smash Hit has a very nice concept and application. I like the idea of testing your dexterity. The increasing difficulty is nice as well. I also really enjoy the idea of a flow state. This game has a very solid foundation. It has a nice mix of challenge that keeps the game fun and also tests your skill. It feels nice to improve and losing doesn’t feel bad, it makes you want to try again and beat your previous score. The game play is awesome and very re-playable. The sound effects, particles and difficult change as the game progresses are also well done. I think the best thing Smash did was the continuous qte part, and did positive feedback accordingly (becoming more COOL after a certain number of consecutive hits), which would give the player a sense of accomplishment. The game is simple and fun. The game has a nice difficulty curve where it starts off easy then slowly gets harder as you hit more baseballs. The game feel elements add to the experience of the game becoming more intense as you get more points. The art style is cute.

The audio feedback is excellent, making it easy to pick up and captivating.

The game has nice music and is very intuitive. The sound effects provide decent feedback and the timer is clear. It captures the intensity of fast paced games while still keeping it minimal which I really enjoy.

What could this game have done better?

The animations and sprites are a little rough, which makes it lack a certain appeal. But the gameplay makes up for that. It’s definitely a try before judge kinda thing. One issue I had with the game was the arrows on the balls on the edges would be clipped and so I can’t really tell what the arrows are. However, that’s a minor issue that can easily be fixed. Other than that, I can’t really think of anything else that could be improved on besides maybe new levels or new keys being introduced. My complaints would mostly be about the art style. The sprites seem to be incorrectly scaled that some appear to be blurry. The text and UI seem to be the Unity default and they can definitely be designed better to better suit the theme of the game. I found hand-drawn arrows on the baseball hard to recognize in the beginning, so it might help improve new player experience if they are made more distinctive. For this kind of game, a score board would be great too! Adding more special effects is a great option Animations can be added to the game to make it look and feel better. A high score can be added as a goal for the player to chase. The art clips out of the screen on the edges so that can be fixed.

Similar to music games, hitting the baseball could trigger hitting effects, along with adding a combo UI. The game could have added more toggles and game feel effects for higher streaks for example. The art could feel a bit more polished, but overall the concept is good.
