What is this jam?

This is a jam to celebrate the niche but fascinating world of object heads! The community is noticeably fragmented, with not many artists, fans, or developers of object head games engaging with each other. Even worse, there is a large divide between the large Eastern fanbase and the Western fanbase due to the language barrier. To help connect the community, we have decided to hold a jam all about object heads!

What is an object head?

According to Know Your Meme, object heads are a visual motif used in surreal art. An object head is generally used to symbolize a connection between humanity and an inanimate symbol. One of the earliest known uses of an object head comes from the 1935 Salvador Dali piece "Woman with a Head of Roses,". Ever since then, object heads have appeared in a wide variety of media such as Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2 and Cuphead from the eponymous game. But why do these characters have inanimate heads? Aliens? Fantasy race? It is all up to the creator, so let your creativity shine!

Who are we?

I am Thugzilla, a game developer who is making my own visual novel about object heads, called Object Ward. It is currently in development, but you can download the demo here. I will be the host of this jam!

I am Awiola! I'm an object head enthusiast, artist, and helper for this jam!

The mascot for this jam is Miss Mermelada; it only makes sense that she has a jam head! She'll have a Creative Commons Licensed sprite that is free to edit and use for this jam. Please treat her well! [DOWNLOAD HERE!]

Rules:

Must contain at least one significant character with an object head. (A non-human head, humanoid body). Even if the character doesn't have an object head all the time, the game must focus on the concept of object heads. Questions can be answered in the FAQ.
NSFW is allowed, but all games with nudity must be marked as NSFW. No NSFW covers either.
Must be a game, whether a visual novel, RPG, twine game… or perhaps something more complex? Finishing older projects and demos is allowed.
Any language is fine!
As the host, Thugzilla will draw a bust shot of one object head per jam submission, if the submitter wills it. This rule may change depending on number of submissions.

Timespan:

From August 1st to September 30th! This is a relaxed two month jam, due to it being the first hosting. Drafting before the jam starts is allowed, but we encourage you to work on the game during the two month span.

Goals:

1. To have fun, the most important rule of them all! This is not a competition or way to harass/shame others.

2. To produce more object headed games! The hosts have made a small collection on itch containing object head games, but it would be absolutely amazing for the community to work together to create more of what we love!
