What is ONE LAST DOLLAR?

One Last Dollar is a Rooted In Trophy game about doing dangerous jobs to make ends meet during a strange version of the Great Depression. Here, there are spirits, devils, monsters… Even the Grim Reaper is someone you could exchange words with. And while miracles don’t happen every day, they certainly happen on a weekly basis.

You play a group of Drifters who lost everything and now have become desperate people who’ll do anything for anyone to keep themselves fed and maybe, if they’re lucky, find a way out of hard times.

What Can I Submit?

Whatever you like, honestly. For some suggestions, you might like to try making:

  • Jobs
  • Foes
  • Lists of Names, Gear, Former Careers, & Trades
  • A Different Setting
  • A Different Time Period
  • Modified or Supplementary Rules
  • Play Aids, such as cheat sheets, rollable tables, etc.
  • Your own original games based on One Last Dollar
  • Non-Game Stuff, like poems, illustration, fiction, or heck, even a whole video game

If you make something for this Jam, I will be super excited to not only read it, but I'll want to share it on assorted social medias! So saying, feel free to tag me on Bluesky or Twi- The Social Media Platform X and/or use the hashtag #OneLastDollarJam so I can share it far and wide.

Optional Theme: "The Unseen"

You may choose to weave in "The Unseen" as an optional theme when creating something for the jam.

You may interpret this as a thing that people choose not to see or something that prefers not to be seen. Perhaps it is a thing that people cannot and will never see. It may be a creature, a group, a place, an object, an entity, or simply an idea. What happens if it's revealed? What happens if it isn't?

Maybe you could just write an Invisible Man story, for yuks.

Also, if you want to explore the theme in a broader way, maybe you could something that I myself have overlooked. What, where, or who hasn't been explored in the game (and Jobs) so far even though it's extremely interesting? What have I missed out on?

Guidelines

  • You can submit as many projects as you like. There's probably a limit where I'm like, "Um, you should take a break..." and I'm excited to learn where that limit  is!
  • You may submit new or old projects, provided that they're thematically relevant.
  • You can reference content from One Last Dollar (places, characters, etc.), but don't copy & paste large sections of text (or any images) from my work, especially content not included in the free demo. I got bills to pay.
  • Don't Use AI. If I get even a whiff of AI art or writing, I will ban your entry without a moment's hesitation.
  • Don't be a piece of shit. Feel free to explore complex themes, but if your entry actively promotes racism, sexism, transphobia, or any other form of descrimination, then that entry's gonna get banned.

Resources

First of all, join the Discord in order to brainstorm ideas, discuss work-in-progress, and even playtest your work. You can always find me there, willing to answer any question you have.

You can also go to The One Last Dollar itch.io page to download The Free Demo, which includes everything you need to create your own supplement, including:

  • The One-Shot Rules: Everything you need to know about the game, including a breakdown of how to write a Job and how to come up with your own Foes.
  • The Beast of Baxter's Sawmill: An example Job which you can refer back to when it comes to figuring out structure and so forth.
  • A Job Template: A word document that's already laid out and ready to be edited by you on Google Docs.
  • A List of Existing Jobs: To avoid overlap, you can find descriptions of The Beast of Baxter's Sawmill, Devil At The Crossroads, The Eastern Flier, and The Curse of Wormwood Mine

And if you're looking for even more materials (including three additional Jobs as well as rules for Character Creation and Downtime), check out the full game! There's lots of cool bonus stuff in there.
